Nickelback has been the butt of music jokes for more than two decades now, and we’ve all been so busy slagging the band off that none of us have realised we’ve actually been pronouncing lead singer Chad Kroeger’s name wrong this whole time.
Kroeger revealed in a new interview that he never bothers to correct people’s mispronunciation of his surname for fear of ‘looking like a d**k’ and insisted that he’s not really bothered by it.
Well, we are bothered, and we’re here to set the record straight. So, next time you start laying into the ‘Back, spare a thought for the group’s frontman, who has not only had his music torn to shreds for twenty plus years, but his surname, too.

Speaking to Loudwire this month, Kroeger explained: “It’s Kroo-ger [like Nightmare on Elm Street’s Freddy Krueger].”
He added: “If I just stop and go, ‘Actually, it’s Kroo-ger,’ I’m gonna look like such a d***. So I’m just like whatever, I don’t care."
The Canadian rocker also revealed that Alice In Chains‘ Jerry Cantrell once corrected a journalist on their pronunciation of his name and was surprised that Cantrell ‘gave a s**t’.

“I sort of looked over at Jerry, and he goes, ‘It’s your name, dude. That is your last name’.”
He went on: “Tell that dude across there how to say it properly so that he stops saying it wrong into that microphone and misinforming people.
“That is your last name, brother.' And I was like, ‘Wow you really care about this s***!’”
Kroeger’s interview coincided with an announcement from the multi-platinum band that its latest album, Get Rollin’, will drop in November.

Last month, the band released a snippet of one of the album’s songs, San Quentin, and the preview suggested Nickelback's new album would be a lot heavier than previous ones.
Speaking about San Quentin and the fact that fans instantly recognised the track as Nickelback's, guitarist Ryan Peake told WRAT: “It's actually interesting because I think Nickelback fans would know for sure.”
He added: “I don't think it's unusual, that type of song, for us. It's not necessarily indicative of the whole album, but as far as rock, it's a heavy rock song.

“And if you've seen us live, you would definitely get it, too. I think it's nice, I kind of like that people are feeling like it's a surprise that we could write or we could have rock songs like that in our repertoire."
