Newsroom employee caught watching Shrek during live broadcast on missing woman

Unaware of what was going on behind the scenes, the newsreader simply continued with her report

A newsroom employee was caught watching Shrek during a live broadcast on a missing woman in Australia.

While watching the news recently, one TikToker was surprised to see an unexpected detail behind the newsreader in the studio.

As the 9 News reporter shared breaking news on a missing persons case, a fellow employee could be seen in the background with Shrek on their screen.

Unaware of what was going on behind the scenes, the newsreader continued with her report.

Posting the footage, TikTok user Alex Goodman, wrote: “Old mate got a little distracted. Hope the woman is found tho.”

The video has since racked up 1.4 million views on the platform, with one commenting: “Someone’s getting fired.”

Someone else wrote: “He knew what he was doing.”

A third said: “The fact he moved aside made it even funnier.”

A fourth added: “He thought we weren't notice but we did.”

Of course, the unfortunate moment may have distracted viewers from the real issue at hand – the disappearance of Australian woman, Sarah Weatherstone, a 28-year-old who has not been seen for more than a month.

Weatherstone was last seen walking out of a factory in Narre Warren, Melbourne, on the afternoon of 23 March.

Her mother Judith said she is going through a ‘living nightmare’, as the search for her daughter continues, saying she had been very ‘close’ to her.

"I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy," she told press.

"It’s a living nightmare. I see this on my TV shows. I don’t want to live it."

The concerned mother said she hadn’t heard from her daughter since 23 March – a move she said was ‘very out-of-character'.

"Sarah and I are very, very close and we would be in contact every single day - even if we had an argument,” she explained.

Weatherstone has missed her birthday and a trip to Queensland for a family wedding, which she was reportedly looking forward to.

In an interview with the Herald Sun, mum Judith said she is no closer to finding her daughter.

“Two things go through my mind, one is that she is dead - I’m sure it’s easy enough to hide a body,” she said.

“The other is that she is hiding somewhere. That option is more heartbreaking for me, than if she was dead.

“She and I have never not contacted each other, ever since she was young I was the person she went to. She called me her rock. We’ve heard nothing at all, that’s the hard thing.”

Described as Caucasian with blonde hair, Weatherstone was last seen wearing a green jumper, cream track pants, white trainers and a yellow singlet top.

Anyone with any information is being asked to contact police.
