That window of time between Christmas and New Year is a pretty special one. Nothing gets done, you can wear pyjamas all day, and you may or may not be living off cheeseboards, picky bits and leftover turkey.

Nobody knows what date it is - never mind what day of the week -, and it basically feels like a week-long national holiday where nobody has a clue what's going on.

It's essentially the perfect time to chill out after the Christmas chaos and before the responsibilities and pressures of January, what with all its detoxes and resolutions.

You might have heard people talking about this period, but do you know what it's actually called?

While there's no official term, there are a few that have stuck over the years.

For example, popular terms include 'Twixmas' and 'Crimbo Limbo'.

Over on Reddit, one person wrote: "It’s now the weird time between Christmas & New Year where anything goes: Slices of cold meat for breakfast? Sure! Box of chocolates for lunch? Why not! Liquid dinner? Of course!"

People were quick to discuss the proper name, with one person writing: "Yep it's Crimbo Limbo.

"For brekkie I had four blinis, olives, ham, and some Twiglets.

    "Now I'm eating Ferrero Rocher.

"Edit: I've just had some bubble and squeak."

Another called it 'climbo', while a third said: "It's called Twixmas because it's betwixt Christmas and New Year."

A fourth added on TikTok: "Who knew Twixmas was a term lol."

Others weren't happy with the nicknames, however, with another commenting: "I mean it used to be called Christmas. The twelve days of Christmas? It used to be the whole period between December 25th and January 6th was Christmas. Not sure who nicked the other days but I feel short-changed!"

Others spoke about exactly what their 'Twixmas' routines involved - and they nearly all feature food and drink.

"Had an entire selection box for breakfast before the wife woke up. Not even guilty," said one.

And another added: "Run out of milk? Bailey's in your coffee and over the cornflakes."

A third admitted: "Woke up this morning and had a cheeseboard for breakfast. Standard."

"My brunch was a slice of cold beef, some blue cheese on crackers, half a share size bag of posh crisps and some Xmas cake washed down with a pint of orange juice and rum," said a fourth.

Another admitted it was her favourite part of the entire holiday season, adding: "This is the best bit in my opinion. The present bit is done, the big dinner is done and all the pressure is off.

"You can lay around eating chocolate, watching kids movies in new pj's and hopefully finish it all off with a luxury bath and something alcoholic. Lovely."
