Shocking video has shown a baby puffing away on a vape.

7News reports the mother from Australia on the New South Wales mid-north coast was seen smiling while the boy's aunt placed a vape in his mouth.

"Want to try," the woman said before the infant took a toke from the vape.

People around the 11-month-old didn't seem to care that the baby inhaled vapour from the device and then coughed it out.

Video footage of the horrifying incident was posted on social media for all to see.

People quickly ripped into the mother for allowing such a shocking incident to happen to her son.

One user wrote: “Who gives their kid a vape, grow up and be a better mother. How can you put the vape up to your own son’s mouth and watch him suck on it and laugh while he’s choking and coughing.”

Another said: "They all deserve to have the baby taken off them and given to someone who desperately wants a child, and then throw them into jail, just disgusting."

New South Wales Police have been made aware of the video and are now investigating.

Health experts are concerned for the health and weflare of the baby.

Paige Preston from the Lung Foundation told 7News: "It is incredibly alarming to see that video of that poor child.

“This is a massive concern because it does normalise vaping, it makes light of something that is incredibly dangerous to children and to adults.”

However, the mother of the baby has seemingly hit back at all the critics on social media.

According to News Corp, the woman posted a comment on Facebook that said: “Every c*** got the hide to sit there and talk about me and my child, take a look in yas own backyard.

“You ain’t perfect either so keep that mouth going you ain’t scary, you’re nothing but bums.”

While it might be shocking to people around the world, this isn't the first time we've seen a baby been forced to smoke a vape.

A man who placed an e-cigarette in a baby's mouth for a viral video last year faces up to 20 years in prison if found guilty.

The unnamed 23-year-old was arrested on August 8 by officers in Johor, Malaysia, after the clip circulated on social media.

According to North Johor Baru district police commander Rupiah Abd Wahid, the baby belonged to the sister of the suspect's friend.

The mother, her sister and the man had been in a restaurant when he placed the vape, which was said to be non-functioning, in the seven-month-old's mouth.

In the clip, the man can be seen placing the vape in the baby's mouth before pulling it away to making it look as if the child is smoking.

The commander went on to explain that on August 6, after the clip went viral, the mother filed a police report and officers arrested the man shortly after an investigation was launched.

Despite the baby not appearing to inhale fumes from the allegedly non-functioning e-cigarette, the man could be charged with exposing a child under care to danger.

Rupiah has said the case serves as a warning to the public to be careful about what they post on social media.
