Traveller sues Emirates over 'disgusting' $3,200 business class trip

Brodie Chapman claims his 'grubby' seat had socks stuck down the side, and it couldn't recline properly.

A Perth man is suing Emirates over a ‘disgusting, grubby’ AUD $3,240 (USD $2,155) Business Class seat.

Brodie Chapman, a 20-year-old who runs his own wholesale energy firm and travels with the airline up to 20 times a year, is furious with the airline following a recent trip.

He said that while he was promised ‘luxury’ during his flight from Oslo to Dubai on March 28, his flight experience was a 'misrepresentation of the brand'.

“They advertise this fancy product – the 777 or the A380 – and this plane I got on was absolutely disgusting,” he told the Daily Mail.

“The seats were grubby, there were socks stuck down the side of my chair, it didn’t recline properly, one of the screens didn’t work, there were stains on the seat,” he added.

The Perth native revealed that when he complained, he was dismissed to an Emirates’ customer service team, who merely offered him 20,000 Skywards Miles.

But now, the business owner is suing the airline in court in the UK over ‘false advertisement.’

He added that the reason he flies with Emirates is because they promise ‘more luxury and comfort’.

“But if the product they are advertising bears no relation to what you are actually receiving - I don't think it's really fair,” he continued.

Emirates has responded to the lawsuit but told news.com.au it would not provide any details as it was ‘pending litigation’.

“Emirates stands by its high-quality products and services, and we are currently delivering a multibillion-dollar retrofit program on our Airbus A380 and Boeing 777 aircraft, as part of our commitment to ensure that customers ‘Fly Better’ for years to come,” they said in a statement to the news outlet.

“Our Customer Affairs and Service Audit team takes all feedback seriously and has been diligently handling this case.

“The team has since been in touch with the customer, however as this case is now pending litigation, we will not be offering any additional comment.”

Chapman’s dispute comes after an Emirates business class flier was awarded AUD $12,500 (USD $8320) after complaining about his seat.

The man flying from New Zealand to the UK said he was promised access to a mini bar, a flat bed and an updated entertainment system, as per One Mile At A Time.

But, according to the outlet, his flight was instead operated by an Emirates 777-300ER, which features ‘the carrier’s most outdated business class product’.
