Two brothers who didn't know each other existed were reunited after one saw the other on the news.

Randy Waites tuned in to watch the weather forecast one day, when he spotted a man being interviewed on the television who not only shared his last name but who had a striking resemblance to a family member.

After getting his daughter to conduct some research, Randy soon discovered he had a brother.

Randy Waites of Lodi never expected to find a new family member by watching the local news. Today, he connected with a brother he never knew he had after spotting a familiar last name on @kcranews. It was an honor to be there to capture this special moment. pic.twitter.com/4QTdic8N6q

Getting a lot more than he bargained for than simply his local weather report, Randy told KCRA he was startled to see an interview with a man named Eddie Waites who 'looked a lot like [his] dad in the eyes'.

Randy's daughter Cambria said: 'I saw [Eddie's] features and he actually looked a lot like my dad in the eyes. I did my research, searched up his name, looked up all I could.'

Upon discovering his long-lost brother, Randy got in touch, where the pair shared an 'unbelievable' first phone call.

'It was an instantaneous chill all the way from my head all the way down to my toes. At first I thought, it’s not possible. Once I seen a picture of him, I seen my dad. I seen our dad. I knew it was real,' Eddie explained.

Randy had never met the pair's father, so meeting up with Eddie offered him a chance to learn more about him, The Mirror reports.

'[I] never saw a picture of him my entire life. [Eddie] has been texting me all kinds of different stuff, pictures of my grandfather, and filling in on the family history that I never had on that side,' he said.

Our coverage just ran in the 5pm show, but you can catch this incredible story — and the very special in-person meeting between these two brothers — again tonight on @kcranews at 10. pic.twitter.com/xVaM5LqgZT

Earlier this week, February 6, the brothers met for the first time, realising they had actually only lived within 30 miles of each other.

Eddie reflected how the pair's first hug felt like 'almost an out-of-body experience'.

He concluded: 'The whole thing is surreal. To have not only a brother, but a family I never knew existed is beyond words. It's unbelievable.'

The sighting happened during a KCRA 3 newscast, in a story about snowfall in Lake Tahoe. A man named Eddie Waites was being interviewed, and Randy wondered if there might be a family connection. https://t.co/qVTblyvJye

It's not only a weather forecast that has helped reunite a pair of siblings either, after eBay helped bring a man and his sister together after the duo spent more than 30 years apart.

A TIkToker even revealed a possible real life Parent Trap moment when she believed she discovered her twin sister while at University.
