American rapper Kodak Black has been arrested and charged with possession after police in Florida pulled him over for illegal tinted windows on his car.

Florida Highway Patrol spotted the rapper's purple Dodge Durango at around 4.30pm that appeared to have windows tinted darker than the legal limit. Officers then said they smelled marijuana from the car and proceeded to search the Dodge Durango on Friday.

They found 31 oxycodone pills, police said in a news release.

Oxycodone is often prescribed to treat severe pain and is highly addictive - something which can very easily lead to addiction.

Alongside the pills, officers said they found $74,960 (£63,230) in cash during the search. The vehicle's registration and Kodak Black's license, whose real name is Bill K. Kapri, was also expired.

Kodak Black was taken to Broward County Jail.

Online records show police arrested and brought the rapper to Broward County Jail. He was charged him with possession of a controlled substance without prescription and trafficking in oxycodone.

His lawyer said: "Never judge a case based on an arrest. There are facts and circumstances that give rise to a defense, especially in this case. We negotiated a bond of $75,000 and we will move forward with resolving the matter quickly."

The 25-year-old performer has previously been arrested for various different charges. Earlier this year, he was arrested for trespassing in his hometown Pompano Beach, Florida. The arrest happened soon after a period at a rehabilitation centre.

Before his first arrest in 2015, he was sent to a youth detention centre. Throughout 2019 he faced charges of robbery, falsifying information on legal documents, false imprisonment, violation of probation and one sexual assault charge.

In 2018, he given a sentence of 364 days in prison due to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of marijuana. The 'No Flockin' rapper was eventually released in August 2018.

Soon after, however, he received another sentence - this time for 46 months in prison, due to lying on official government documents in 2020.

However, former President Donald Trump used his last day in office to pardon the rapper's sentence while he was serving time at the United States Penitentiary, Thomson, in Illinois.

Trump said he pardoned Kodak Black's weapons sentence as he was a 'prominent artist and community leader'.

Despite the president's pardon, Kodak still faced criminal sexual assault charges. After a plea bargain, he was sentenced to 18 months probation.
