As Hurricane Ian rips into Florida, three men decided it was time for the scariest swim of their lives.

We're hoping that your first thought upon seeing an extreme weather warning for a category 4 storm isn't to head to the beach for a quick swim.

Still, despite officials bracing those on the west coast for a heavy hit from Hurricane Ian, some men in Fort Myers put themselves in an 'EXTREMELY dangerous' situation. Watch the terrifying footage here:

The shocking footage was shared on Twitter earlier today (28 September), which originally came from CCTV footage from the Pierside Grills beach cam in Fort Myers - an area currently being ravaged by the storm.

"New video just in from Fort Myers, FL shows swimmers getting into the storm surge as Hurricane #Ian approaches. This is EXTREMELY dangerous. I can’t believe I have to say this…. DO NOT GET INTO THE WATER!" the caption read.

While the identities of the men have not been revealed, nor has it been reported if any injuries were sustained, it's safe to say people weren't exactly impressed with their actions.

"Oh wow. So there are people waking up in the morning thinking it would be a smart idea to go into the water just now," one person said.

The three men decided to go for a dip.

A second added that the Florida men were the reason for those seemingly obvious warnings on hair dryers: "These guys are the reason they put warnings on hair dryers not to submerge in water while using."

While another questioned if the lads thought it was fun to dive into incredibly dangerous waves: "Hard to believe the locals still believe stuff like this is like some kind of wave pool at the waterpark."

With wind speeds expected to reach up to 155mph and an additional 18 inches of rainfall, local governors have been appealing for the world to 'pray for people' in its path.

Millions are expected to be impacted by the storm, which has already caused deadly flooding and power outages in Cuba, the BBC reports.

As the west coast braces itself, US President Joe Biden even came out to assure the public: "We’ll be there at every step of the way.

"That’s my absolute commitment to the people in the state of Florida."

Biden promised that the full resources needed to recover, clean up, and rebuild after the storm would be soon made available.
