The unoccupied ocean beach home is currently estimated to be worth $381,200 (£308,436), according to Zillow, and is said to be 'the second unoccupied house collapse of the day'.

Cape Hatteras National Seashore released a statement with regards to the incident which occurred on 10 May.

They wrote: "Cape Hatteras National Seashore (Seashore) has confirmed that an unoccupied house at 24265 Ocean Drive, Rodanthe, N.C. collapsed this afternoon.

"This is the second unoccupied house collapse of the day at the Seashore.

"The beach near Ocean Drive is closed and law enforcement officials will close Ocean Drive shortly. Visitors are cautioned to stay away from the beach in this area."

“Unfortunately, there may be more houses that collapse onto Seashore beaches in the near future,” David Hallac, superintendent of National Parks of Eastern North Carolina, said in a further statement.

“We proactively reached out to homeowners along Ocean Drive in Rodanthe after the first house collapse and recommended that actions be taken to prevent collapse and impacts to Cape Hatteras National Seashore.”

People have now had their opinion on the collapse as the footage has since gone viral on social media.

One user wrote: "bUT cLIMAtE chANge Is a hOAX," while a second complained: "How come instead of saying 'hey this is going to collapse let’s take it down and dispose of it' the local government just goes with 'let’s add it to the ocean pollution'."

Another commented: "If you’re thinking of building a house on stilts, you shouldn’t build that house."

While a fourth user quipped: "Insurance company: No, sir, you can't make a flood claim. It did not flood inside your home. Your house fell down, and you don't have 'fall down' coverage."

Someone else, who clearly spent a lot of time putting together this 'punny' tweet, wrote: "Hope they didn't sink too much of their savings into that home... what with the rising tide of inflation for repairs, they're gonna be adrift now."

To which someone replied with: "Unfortunately they missed a payment and they're already underwater."
