TikTok star Beandri Booysen has passed away at the age of 19 from a rare disease that causes rapid aging.

Beandri Booysen - who became known on TikTok for raising awareness about Progeria, also known as Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) - has passed away at the age of 19.

Her passing was confirmed by her mother, Bea Booysen, in a post to social media on Wednesday (December 18).

Cleveland Clinic explains that progeria 'is a rare genetic condition that causes rapid aging in children'.

It continues: "A tiny genetic mutation causes the disease. Progeria causes signs of aging such as balding and wrinkled skin. The condition is always fatal."

In Beandri's case, the condition ultimately caused her heart to stop, with her mom taking to Facebook on December 18 to inform fans and followers that doctors were 'trying to get her heart to beat again' and asking for their prayers.

Devastatingly, her mom has since posted a statement 'in loving memory of Beandri Booysen,' confirming that the teenager has passed away.

The statement reads: "It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Beandri Booysen, one of South Africa's most beloved and inspiring young women. Beandri was not only known for her vibrant personality and infectious laugh but also as the last surviving individual in South Africa living with Progeria – a rare genetic condition that causes children to age prematurely.

"Despite the challenges she faced, Beandri radiated hope and joy. She became a symbol of awareness for Progeria and other special needs, using her unique spirit to inspire thousands of people worldwide.

"The Booysen family kindly requests privacy during this profoundly difficult time as they mourn the loss of their beloved Beandri. Further details regarding the memorial service will be shared in due course."

And it's not taken long for fans of Beandri to flock to the post to pay their respects.

A Facebook user wrote: "Condolences to all her loved ones! She was a true inspiration."

"Rest in peace dear Beandri... God's warrior to the end. To mom, dad, brother, family and loved ones, lots of strength in this sad time, may God hold you all tightly in His arms of comfort. We carry you in our hearts," another added.

And a third commented: "Rest in peace dearest Beandri. I never knew you, just read about You. Beautiful angel child. Fly high!! Thinking of the family."
