People are calling out Britney Spears for an Instagram post stating she wished she had dancers like Christina Aguilera's so she would 'look thin'.

Since having been released from her conservatorship after 13 years, Spears has become more active on her Instagram account, using the platform to speak out about her mental health, family relationships and update followers on her new-found freedom.

However, the 'Toxic' singer has recently faced backlash for a post she shared discussing body image, leading to her being accused of 'fat shaming'.

Spears posted a picture of a quote by comedian Rodney Dangerfield on Monday (12 September), which reads: "I found there was only one way to look thin: hang out with fat people."

Underneath the post, Spears commented: "I wish I could have chosen the nannies for my children … my dancers … I mean if I had Christina Aguilera’s dancers I would have looked extremely small… I mean why not talk about it??

"Don’t you think my confidence would have been a bit better if I could choose where I lived, ate, whom I called on the phone, dated and who was on stage with me!!!

"It’s hard sometimes now I see how much of my womanhood was stripped away at that time and every person sat back and didn’t say a thing!!! Anyways … I will be here talking bout things people NEVER talked about!!!"

However, while Spears may have thought she was raising awareness of the pressures and battles she's faced with her own body image while in the industry, followers have called the star out for body shaming others in doing so.

"Uhhhh Brit this was not it," one user commented.

Another wrote: "Oof. Love Britt - but this was in bad taste. Body shaming to make yourself feel better is not where it’s at."

"What did Christina’s dancers ever do to deserve this," a third said.

Spears has previously taken aim at fellow singer and Mickey Mouse Club co-star Aguilera.

In 2021, Spears shared a clip of an interview featuring Aguilera, who had been told to not answer questions about her and the 'Circus' singer's relationship.

"I love and adore everyone who supported me… but refusing to speak when you know the truth, is equivalent to a lie!!!! 13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about???" Spears wrote.

Aguilera doesn't currently follow Spears on Instagram, despite having kept up with her social media while Spears was going through her conservatorship battle.

UNILAD has contacted Christina Aguilera's representatives for comment.
