'Bigfoot' Spotted On Google Maps In Russia

Russia may have its own Sasquatch roaming its woods, according to a new sighting

Bigfoot may be rooming the woods of Russia, according to a new Google Maps sighting.

Bigfoot, also known as Sasquatch, is one of the greatest-known creatures in American folklore, said to be the stage of evolution between ape and man, roaming the northern forests.

The legend has been explored across all forms of media, whether it’s for laughs in Harry and the Hendersons, scares in Willow Creek (a mean little found-footage horror well worth checking out) or documentaries trying to chart the mythical beast.

However, similar to Scotland's Loch Ness Monster being spotted in China last year, Bigfoot clearly doesn't limit itself to the lands of the US. Apparently, the mythical being has made its way across to Russia.

Over on TikTok, @googlemapsfun posted a video of the 'creepiest things' Google Maps has recorded without realising it.

While messing around on Street View, one user was checking a road running alongside a wooded area in Russia when they caught sight of something rather strange: a large, hairy, humanoid-looking creature which some believe to be Bigfoot.

The TikTok has amassed more than six million views and thousands of comments - although not everyone is convinced.

One user wrote: "Man in a Bigfoot suit who knew Google was coming." Another commented: "It's 2022 and people still believe in Bigfoot."

A third speculated: "The Bigfoot is a wooden statue... nothing more. We have something similar near me." A fourth wrote: "And you just happened to find this on Russian roads. We really have to trust you with this."

In the US, there have been more than 10,000 Bigfoot sightings, with most stemming from the Pacific Northwest. However, Russia is home to its own folklore: the Almas.

Similar to Bigfoot, these 'ape-men' are said to be 'covered with brownish hair and the belly with greyish hair', according to Myra Shackley's Wildmen: Yeti, Sasquatch, and the Neanderthal Enigma.

In Nikolay Przhevalsky's account of the Almas, he wrote: "We were told that it had a flat face like that of a human being, and that it often walked on two legs, that its body was covered with a thick black fur, and its feet armed with enormous claws."

He added that 'its strength was terrible, and that not only were hunters afraid of attacking it, but that the inhabitants removed their habitations from those parts of the country which it visited.'
