Arizona Cardinals' Jeff Gladney Dies Aged 25

Arizona Cardinals' Jeff Gladney has died aged 25.

The cornerback was killed in a car accident on Monday morning, according to ESPN.

"We are asking prayers for the family and privacy at this most difficult time," his agent Brian Overstreet said in a statement.

Arizona Cardinals also released a statement, which read: "We are devastated to learn of Jeff Gladney’s passing.

"Our hearts go out to his family, friends and all who are mourning this tremendous loss."

In 2020, the American footballer was a first-round pick by the Minnesota Vikings, who released him last August due to a felony assault charge.

Gladney handed himself into authorities after he was alleged to have struck his girlfriend during an argument.

However, he signed with the Cardinals in March after a jury found him not guilty.

The football world has payed homage to the young man and the career that was ahead of him.

In a series of tweets, Philadelphia Eagles' wide receiver Jalen Reagor wrote: "Lost my Brother, my best friend, my right hand man… ain’t too much more I can take man damn!

"R.I.P Jeff Gladney, brother watch over me please.

"I was just getting my mind back right… jeff you hurt me bad with this one.

"My best friend man.. my best friend."

JJ Watt wrote: "Horrifying news to hear this morning. Just tragic. Rest In Peace Jeff."

George Iloka said: "This Jeff Gladney news hitting me different. Had the privilege of playing with him during his rookie year in Minnesota. One of the most respectful and intentional rookies I’ve been around so far. Always had a smile and came to work. Sad sad. So young, so precious. RIP Young King."

Senior Sportswriter for The Arizona Republic Bob McManaman said: "Sad news to learn of the passing of Arizona Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney in a car accident early Monday morning. Godspeed."

While one fan added: "Life is so fragile man can’t ever take it for granted, RIP Jeff Gladney."

Another commented: "Awful, awful news today. Cardinals cornerback Jeff Gladney passed away after being involved in a RTA in Dallas in the early hours.

"Condolences to his family and friends from everyone associated with BritishBirdgang. Tragic."
