The three-year-old son of Afrobeats star Davido drowned in a swimming pool at his parents' house, police have confirmed.
Named Ifeanyi, the musician's young son only turned three last month before his tragic death, which officials believe to have been caused by drowning.
He was the son of Davido, real name David Adeleke, and the music star's fiancée Chioma Rowland.
Davido is one of Africa's greatest music stars and Rowland is a celebrity chef, with the pair recently announcing in London that they were going to get married in 2023.
The couple have not yet commented on the tragic death of their son, though the musician recently posted on social media shortly after his son's third birthday, with young Ifeanyi appearing to be the apple of his father's eye.
Taking to Instagram, he had wished his young son 'pure happiness for as long as humanly possible' and told his son he would 'pray with all my heart God grants you perfect health'.
A spokesman for the police told the BBC that the young boy drowned on Monday (31 October) in a swimming pool in his parents' home in Lagos, Nigeria.
Benjamin Hundeyin said that eight members of staff have been taken in for questioning, and that it was one of the household's domestic staff members who called the police at 10pm local time.
He said: "We are reviewing the CCTV cameras to get additional information about the circumstances of his death.
"His body has been deposited in the morgue. We are in touch with his parents. In fact they were with us last night."
Tributes and condolences for the family's tragic loss have poured in, with many taking to social media to pay their respects to Davido and Rowland over the terrible death of their son.
One person said they were sorry for the couple suffering 'a loss that no one should ever have to go through', while someone else said they 'can't even begin to imagine the pain' the pair must be going through.
A third person encouraged the bereaved couple to 'take strength from those that need 'em' and said they wished 'nothing but divine peace and comfort during this sorrowful time' upon Davido and his fiancée.
There were many more people posting their own messages offering the couple their deepest condolences and passing along what they hoped would be words of comfort during this difficult time.
UNILAD have contacted Davido's representatives for comment.
