Winter Olympics: 17-Year-Old Team GB Skiier Kirsty Muir Lands ‘Immaculate’ Double 900 In Dazzling Debut

Kirsty Muir secures fifth place with 'immaculate' performance.

Team GB's Kirsty Muir finished in fifth place after dazzling crowds with her 'immaculate' performance at the women's freestyle Big Air final in Beijing.

Muir, 17, is the British team's youngest member and scored a total of 169.00, with a staggering 90.25 on her first jump.

Meanwhile, Eileen Gu, 18, took home the gold for China after securing a 188.25, with an incredible 94.50 in her final jump.

Footage of Muir's first 900m jump was shared to Twitter, with the commentators noting 'that's the way you wanna start a final'.

The trick that Muir landed in the jump was called a 1260, also known as a Tomahawk, with Muir declaring the performance 'was the best I've ever done it'.

Muir also gave a solid performance in her second jump but in her third tried something different.

She said she 'went for a switch misty 10 in the last jump which I've never tried before - I just wanted to go for it, and I'm just so happy that I went and tried it'.

The Scottish national ended the contest on a high, saying, 'I'm so happy right now honestly, the level was insane'.

'It feels amazing [to be a part of it]. I couldn't have hoped to have skied better today and I'm so proud of all the girls', she added.

Like Muir, Gu made her team proud when she attempted a jump she hadn't before. The 'snow princess' was initially in bronze medal position after the first two runs, however, after pulling a 1620 trick and landing it she secured the gold.

Gu is from California but representing her mother's home country.

Reportedly, her mother was at the bottom of the slope giving her advice by phone when Gu decided to attempt the 1620.

According to The New York Times she said, 'Mom, executive call here' before adding 'Vetoed. I am going to make the 16, and you are going to deal with it'.

The crowd erupted in cheers as she landed the trick. 'Honestly, I’m really glad that it did, because I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to try it', Gu said.

This won't be the last time Muir is competing though, as herself and Gu will take part in slopestyle qualification on Sunday, February 12.
