If you haven’t seen the recent trend on TikTok which sees some content creators covering the track ‘Crazy’, we’ve got to ask: where have you been lately?

For those of you that have, you’ll know that I’m talking about the 2006 hit by Gnarls Barkey and not the Britney Spears, Aerosmith or Patsy Cline songs - though they are equally massive hits.

But some people have only just realised that CeeLo Green and Gnarls Barkley are one and the same, and it’s proving kind of mind-blowing to them.

If you need a quick lesson in context, buckle up. Gnarls Barkley is actually an American soul duo, comprised of both Green and their producer Danger Mouse.

The pair released their studio album, St. Elsewhere, in 2006, when ‘Crazy’ was released, which rose to number two on the US Hot 100 chart and even made it to the top of the UK Singles Chart. And the rest is history.

One person wrote on TikTok: “CEELO IS GNARLES. GNARLES IS CEELO. WHAAAAT?!?”

CeeLo Green jumped on TikTok to check out the 'Crazy' challenge.

A different music fan stated: “I HAD NO IDEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I LOVED BOTH ARTISTS AND THEY WERE THE SAME PERSON???”

“How did I not know he's gnarls Barkley?? It's so obvious now,” a third music fan added.

Green himself has actually taken to TikTok to respond to both the trend and the apparent shock that came with realising he’s one of the minds behind the viral track.

“What’s up this is yours truly CeeLo Green, some people call me Gnarls,” he told followers on Thursday.

“I have been checking out the TikTok Crazy riff challenge. Some of it has been great, some of it has been funny, some of it has been not so good, but I love it all just the same,” he said.

He added: “Keep up the work, you guys are so cool. I’m glad you guys still love this song so many years later.”

Some people didn't realise he was the man behind the song.

Some onlookers already got the memo about the pair being the same person, writing: “Blows my mind people didn’t know Gnarls Barkley is Ceelo Green…am I old?”

“I’m shocked people don’t know CeeLo is Gnarls Barkley,” added another, while someone else wrote: “A lot of people are just finding out because they're too young to remember Gnarls.”

Elsewhere in music throwbacks, we took a look at what Afroman is doing these days.

Afroman’s ‘Because I Got High’ is still undoubtedly the anthem to every uni student looking for a reason to not get started on their dissertation.

Released in 2000, the song was certified platinum in nine countries and twice platinum in Australia - which isn’t exactly hard to believe when it comes to the Aussie’s sometimes undying love of ganja - and even led to a record deal for the then-26-year-old with Universal Music Group.
