The Simpsons is set to bring back a notorious character from way back when this weekend for a brand new episode.

The Simpsons has been going for a seriously long time at this point – too long many would say – but they keep bringing out new episodes.

They’ve smashed well through the 30 season mark, running for more than 33 years in total and leaving pretty much every other show in their wake over the past decades.

However, the recurring cast of characters hasn’t changed that much over the years.

The list of Springfield residents is pretty much a closed shop, with only a handful of deaths over the years, as well as the same faces cropping up pretty much every week.

Well, now a face from the very first season of the show is set to return more than three decades after first appearing.

It’s none other than Jacques, the French bowling enthusiast and would-be homewrecker.

Much like Troy McClure, you might remember Jacques from 1990 episode ‘Life on the Fast Lane’.

That episode saw Jacques enter the fray after Homer selfishly bought Marge a bowling ball for her birthday, which led her to actually going to the bowling alley, where she met Jacques.

Despite seeming to fall for his advances, ultimately Marge didn’t end up cheating with Jacques, regardless of his French accent and mysterious charm.

Even though he only appeared in one episode in the first season, fans will doubtless remember quotes such as ‘my mind says stop, but my heart and my hips cry 'proceed!’ as well as his unique explanation of the concept of brunch – ‘It's not quite breakfast, it's not quite lunch, but it comes with a slice of cantaloupe at the end'.

Anyway, Jacques was voiced by comedian Albert Brooks, and he’ll be back again this weekend for the new episode, entitled ‘Pin Gal’.

On the official synopsis, it reads: “A mysterious figure from Marge’s past returns to coach her for a bowling tournament.”

The showrunner Al Jean then later confirmed that Jacques will be returning, tweeting: “Don’t nap on new episode Sunday, Pin Gal with the return of Jacques.”

Brooks has had some iconic characters in The Simpsons lore, having voiced one-episode wonder Hank Scorpio.

Scorpio, a maniacal supervillain who also happened to be a fantastic employer, only appeared in ‘You Only Move Twice’, but is widely regarded as one of the most beloved characters amongst fans.

Brooks also played memorable turns as Brad Goodman in ‘Bart’s Inner Child’ and played Russ Cargill in the show’s feature length outing The Simpsons Movie.

Jacques has actually been spotted on a couple of occasions since his first episode, but he hasn’t actually had a speaking role until now.

You can catch Jacques return in The Simpsons on TV this Sunday night.
