People disappointed after finding out how long we have to wait for Stranger Things' final season

Reports have suggested the fifth and final season of Stranger Things won’t be released until at least 2024

Stranger Things fans have been left feeling disappointed after finding out how long we’re expected to have to wait for the fifth and final season to drop.

From emotional improvised scenes to Eddie's incredible electric guitar solo, the fourth series of the hit Netflix show ended with a bittersweet bang, leaving everyone desperate for more.

While we still have no official word on the final season’s release date, reports have suggested it won’t be until 2024, with The Hollywood Reporter also saying that the series is expected to run for eight episodes.

This has also been echoed by Collider’s Steven Weintraub, who tweeted yesterday: “#StrangerThings5 films next year in Atlanta. Which means earliest it's on @netflix is 2024. Also entire VFX industry is behind on everything so no chance of rushing the effects.”

When asked if this had been confirmed by the Duffer Brothers, Weintraub replied: “Nope. Someone else told me.”

While many fans are excited for the next instalment, some have admitted they’re not too thrilled about having to wait for so long for the saga to conclude.

Season four premiered earlier this year.

One tweeted: “Omg we have to wait until 2024 for season 5 of Stranger Things?! That’s bulls**t”

Someone else said: “Stranger Things Season 5 2024 just makes me sad us fans need it now please & thank you.”

And a third wrote: “Season 5 of Stranger Things isn't predicted to come out until 2024 and I don't mean to be dramatic but I think I may die.”

Detailed information about the forthcoming fifth series have been kept under wraps so far, but the Duffer Brothers have teased a few nuggets.

Speaking at a Los Angeles panel to discuss the hugely popular sci-fi series, the duo said they turned in the first season five script to Netflix ‘a couple of weeks ago’ and now they’re writing the second.

They also revealed how, when they pitched the full season to Netflix during a two-hour meeting, there were no dry eyes in the house.

“We did get our executives to cry, which I felt was a good sign that these executives were crying,” Matt Duffer said, before joking: “The only other times I’ve seen them cry were like budget meetings."

Executive producer Shawn Levy added: “As a witness and having been in that two-hour pitch room and having read the first script – I’m paralysed with fear that I’ll spoil anything, but I will say the thing about these Duffer brothers is that even though the show has gotten so famous and the characters have gotten so iconic and there’s so much about the ‘80s and the supernatural genre, it’s about these people, it’s about these characters.

“Season five is already so clearly taking care of these stories of the characters because that’s always been the lifeblood of Stranger Things.”

UNILAD has reached out to Netflix for comment.
