The writers behind Stranger Things have explained what would have happened to Eddie Munson in season five.
The fourth season of the popular Netflix series came to an end earlier this month, and viewers were horrified to see that the fan-favourite character was killed off in the show.
The disturbing plot twist was a huge topic of discussion on social media, with many onlookers wishing that the character would make a return for season five.

However, the show’s creators have now cleared up any rumours of Eddie’s return, and have even stated his fate if he were to survive beyond season four.

The final episode of the series saw the tragic death of Joseph Quinn, who sacrificed himself in order to save Hawkins. But a sad irony meant that those living there believed he was a murderer and made his life a living hell in the days leading up to his death.
Co-creator and writer of the series Matt Duffer recently revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he ‘sort of saw Eddie as a bit of a doomed character.’

Matt revealed: “Even imagining the flip side of that, where he does survive that final battle, there’s not a great life waiting for Eddie in the right side up either, so he was really designed from the get-go as a doomed character.”
The writer then explored what would have been the alternative outcome, had Eddie survived the awful events of season four of the show.

Ross Duffer, the other half of the brains behind Stranger Things, then explained: “He was always going to be a tragic character. There was no other arc for him. He would have wound up in jail – this fantasy that he would have been in Milwaukee graduating sadly was never an outcome for him.”

However, their comments haven’t stopped die-hard fans from doing all in their power to bring Eddie back.
Earlier this month, a petition titled ‘Bring Back Beloved Stranger Things Character’ was launched on Change.org.
The description read: “This is a petition I have started to bring back fan favourite Eddie Munson. The Duffer Brothers have unfairly killed him off and many other fans and I think he deserves to be brought back and not just as a flashback, please sign this petition to spread awareness.”
On 10 July, an update was posted to the petition that stated: “We have officially hit 50K, I never dreamed we would have achieved such an insane goal but with everyone's help we have! I am so proud of every single one of you!”
