A lot of filmmakers create movies with the hope of impressing millions of audience members, but director Quentin Tarantino has stressed he makes his movies for himself.

Obviously it helps if the movie goes down well with viewers, but Tarantino evidently doesn't have a problem in that area.

He's been nominated for multiple Best Director Oscars over the years, and won Best Original Screenplay twice for Django Unchained and Pulp Fiction.

But Tarantino has made clear that for him, audience members are simply along for the ride:

The director discussed his films during an appearance on The Howard Stern Show in November 2022, where he was asked about everything from his favourite movie to his personal life.

Tarantino, 59, explained that the answer to his favourite movie 'depends on when you ask', as one moment it 'might be Kill Bill' and another it 'might be something else'.

However, he continued: "I really do think Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is my best movie."

The director then went on to confirm that he does watch his own movies back after making them. When asked why, he made the answer seem obvious: "I love them! I love my movies - I'm making them for me, everybody else is invited.

"Any time my movies are on TV I'm like 'Hey! Now I guess I'm watching Jackie Brown for a while."

Stern commended Tarantino for his candid response, noting how other filmmakers and stars have been known to claim they don't watch their own work back.

"I'm not them, I'm very happy with my work," Tarantino said.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is Tarantino's most recent release, arriving in 2019 with Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio in the starring roles.

The film grossed $371m (£311m) at the worldwide box office and earned a total of 10 nominations at the 2020 Oscars.

Over the years, Tarantino has created other iconic titles including Inglourious Basterds, Reservoir Dogs and The Hateful Eight, so far bringing his total number of movies up to nine.

Tarantino has said his next movie will be his last.

In November 2022, the director revealed while speaking to CNN's Chris Wallace that his next movie would be his last.

After three decades in the business, Tarantino explained: "I've been doing it for a long time; I've been doing it for 30 years. And it's time to wrap up the show. I'm an entertainer. I want to leave you wanting more."

The director hasn't yet revealed exactly when his last movie might arrive, but if it's anything like his previous ones, he's sure to go out with a spectacular bang.
