TV news anchor Taylor Bruck decided to come out live on-air in a subtle but hugely powerful way.

Spectrum News 1 Ohio anchor Taylor Bruck came out while presenting the news, using just one 'simple but scary word'.

She was discussing her holiday travel plans alongside her co-presenter Alexa Maslowski, when Bruck said: “The extent of my traveling is probably going to visit my girlfriend in Cleveland and that’s about it.”

This was the first time Bruck had mentioned having a girlfriend in the public, and it seemed as though the moment held a lot of gravity for the news anchor.

“I said 'girlfriend' on air for the first time today, which some people may say 'ok, who cares?' … but to me it’s a step toward accepting and loving myself fully and being authentic on and off the air,” she later shared on Instagram.

Bruck has since spoken out to PEOPLE about the huge moment, revealing her decision was a 'spur-of-the-moment' thing.

“I told myself, ‘Just say it',” she shared.

“When I finally said it out loud, I smiled inside because it was a big moment for me."

Bruck has since understood the importance of her sharing this with the world, saying she didn't initially 'realize how meaningful it would be for over a million people worldwide'.

“Messages are pouring in from all around the world, including Ghana, Germany, Australia, London, as well as many states across the US,” Bruck explained.

“People are telling me how much this visibility means to them and that they’re so proud of me.”

It's clear from the comments on Bruck's post that this moment was huge for the LGBTQ+ community.

Messages of support came pouring in.

“I remember being a kid hearing someone on the TV mention her girlfriend and it truly does make an impact for those not yet out of the closet :)),” one person commented.

Another added: "I hope you know how impactful it is to others."

A third explained: "when in a wlw relationship, saying “my girlfriend” was always SO nerve wracking, even in the most casual settings and with people I knew would still love me. i’m proud of you for taking this step on television!!"

Bruck has since responded to all of the love on Instagram, writing: "I’m absolutely blown away by all the love!!! This was so unexpected but so encouraging and I really appreciate all your positivity and support. I’m out and proud because representation absolutely matters and it saves lives. I’ll keep being authentically me 🌈 Much love to you all!"
