A MasterChef contestant lost her place on the show after she made the bold choice to serve the judges with a dish they'd 'never seen' before in their time on the competition.

Just as the name of the show implies, MasterChef is all about proving you have the ability to present the best dish possible. Contestants want to be able to show off their use of flavor, presentation skills and efficiency in the kitchen, all in the hope of being named, well, the Master Chef.

As a result, the series has shown off a whole range of interesting and daring dishes - but perhaps none quite as bold as the plate offered up by contestant Saray Carrillo on the show in Spain.

Along with her other contestants, Carrillo was faced with a challenge which took 'farm to table' to the next level. This wasn't a case of scrubbing the dirt off some potatoes, but instead involved a whole partridge - a type of game bird.

While a lot of amateur chefs might feel comfortable roasting a chicken and cutting around the carcass for a tasty dinner, this was a different kettle of fish. Or breed of bird.

The would-be master chefs were given the birds whole - and we're not talking the 'whole chicken' you get from the grocery store, with its feathers nicely plucked.

Instead, we're talking completely whole, with guts in, feathers on, and a face.

The chefs then had to pluck and gut their birds before cooking them however they saw fit - potentially roasting them whole, taking out the breast fillets, or taking off the legs to confit.

There are all sorts of things they could have done to prepare the meat, but unfortunately Carrillo had a major aversion to handling and dealing with poultry, making the process a true nightmare for her.

Rather than getting stuck in, Carillo took a different approach - she simply presented the judges with her bird still with the feathers on, with some spring onions and tomatoes for a bit of extra color.

After seeing the dish, one of the shocked judges said: “This is never seen in MasterChef.”

The clip of the presentation went viral on social media, garnering more than 1.8 million views online, but it wasn't quite so popular with the judges who unfortunately kicked Carrillo off the show.

However, the chef was clearly satisfied with the path she'd chosen and simply said 'bye bye' as she walked away.
