Seann William Scott reveals tiny salary he was paid for iconic Stifler role in American Pie movie

We've all seen American Pie and you'd think the cast would have been paid well, right?

American Pie is an all-time great, making $235 million at the box office - and that was back in 1999.

The film had a budget of $10 million, so you'd think the main cast would have been on mega bucks wouldn't you?

Well, you'd be completely wrong as Seann William Scott, who played the iconic character Steve Stifler, revealed just how much, or little, he got paid.

The movie was shot over three months from July to September 1998, but wasn't released until October the following year.

It was Scott's breakout movie and because he earned such a small amount he had to continue to bring in money somehow - so he got a job as a 'churro guy' at the LA Zoo to continue bringing in money as he waited for the film to come out.

Before we get into how much he earned, let's talk about how much he made in American Reunion, released 13 years later in 2012.

Sources cited by The Hollywood Reporter revealed that he bagged an impressive $5 million for his appearance in the movie, while co-stars stars Alyson Hannigan and Eugene Levy each received around $3 million.

The rest of the cast received paychecks in the region of $500,000 to $750,000.

So, they finally got the money they deserved - but, of course, the creators at that point did have the success of the franchise behind them, as well as more than a decade of inflation.

But for his first appearance, Scott earned less than 0.25 percent of what he did for the final film.

The 46-year-old actor opened up about how much he earned for the first movie in the epic comedy series during a game of Celebrity True or False on The Rich Eisen Show.

The host asked him if he earned just $8,000 for for his role in American Pie.

Scott replied: "I think [that's right], yeah because I remember afterwards I bought a used Thunderbird, for like $5,000 (£4,200), maybe $6,000 (£5,040).

"I don't know what happened to the other two grand."

He didn't look back in anger, sorry Oasis is on my mind after talks of them getting back together, but instead insisted that $8,000 was 'a lot of money at the time' for him at the time.

I will quickly add that I do know it is a huge amount of money, but we're talking about Hollywood here - they have millions to burn.

As well as the popular 90s comedy, Scott has appeared in films such as Dude, Where's My Car? and The Dukes of Hazzard.
