Wednesday actor Jenna Ortega has recalled 'one of the most awkward experiences' she has ever faced, and it was on a production set.

Ortega is the star of the show in the new Netflix series Wednesday, which is set to release on the streaming platform next week.

The show will be the first time we have seen The Addams Family in nearly 30 years, as Tim Burton teams up with Netflix to bring the famed family back to life for a brand new audience.

The new series focuses on Ortega's character Wednesday Addams in her years as a student, as she tries to master her psychic ability to help solve the mystery that affected her parents.

The star's fellow cast members include Christina Ricci, who played Wednesday in the 1990s films.

In the Netflix series, Ricci plays new character Marilyn Thornhill, in what was a surprise inclusion for many fans of the old films.

In an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday (15 November), Ortega recalled how it was awkward with Ricci playing the same character she was 30 years ago and how some of the 'dark sense of humour' didn't hit.

She said: "I feel like I personally made it a little weird. She was really sweet about it. Me? It was one of the most awkward experiences I've ever had.

"You know, I'm dressed up the way she was 30 years ago, and she's getting to watch me, but I know her as Wednesday in my head, and I think, socially, I can be kind of hard to communicate with at times. And sometimes I would say something as a joke, and I think I have a very dark sense of humour, and she would go, 'Uh, that's dark.'

"But she's a sweetheart. Like, if it hadn't been for her being so generous and professional and impressive as an individual... I think I was able to get over myself within the first couple of days."

Despite the awkwardness, Ortega has seemingly impressed Ricci in her new role.

Speaking to Variety earlier this year, Ricci opened up about what it was like stepping back into the world of the Addams Family: "It’s super fun. I loved working with Tim [Burton]. I worked with Gwendolyn Christie, it was amazing. And Jenna is incredible."

Ricci and Ortega are not the only actors starring in Wednesday when it launches on 23 November.

Alongside Wednesday Addams past and present, Luis Guzmán, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Isaac Ordonez, among others will also be featuring.
