Jamie Lee Curtis confirms fans are finally getting Freaky Friday follow-up movie

The fortune cookie has predicted a sequel on the horizon.

Jamie Lee Curtis has confirmed that Freaky Friday 2 is in the works.

For years there have been whispers that there would be a sequel to the iconic Disney 2003 comedy; however, nothing has been officially confirmed.

That is, until now.

Over the weekend, while speaking to Variety on the red carpet at the Producers Guild Awards, the Halloween star said: "It’s going to happen.

"Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen."

Curtis’ remarks come just a few weeks after she posted a photo with her Freaky Friday co-star Lindsay Lohan.

She captioned the photo: “It's Friday. I'm just saying! Freaky fingers crossed!”

Of course, this sent users into a frenzy, as one person wrote: “This and The Parent Trap were the two Disney reboots from classics that far surpassed the originals.”

Another said: “Yes please make it happen.”

A third commented: “DO NOT TOY WITH MY EMOTIONS.”

While another shared: “Let’s hope a sequel is in the works!”

The 2003 film was a classic for noughties kids who loved watching the 'mum' hop on the back of bad-boy Jake's motorbike and watching LiLo give her mum's body a punk-rock makeover with Lilax’s ‘What I Like About You’ playing in the background.

And honestly, my inner angsty teenager is screaming at the idea of a sequel.

In November, during an interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lohan hinted at the possibility of a follow-up film.

Lohan that Curtis had texted her while she was shooting Falling For Christmas.

She said: "Jamie Lee Curtis writes you, and you just get excited and distracted immediately, so I had to bring myself back down to earth and be like, 'okay I'm on set, I have to focus'. And then she said, Freaky Friday 2, and I got more excited."

While appearing on The View, Curtis revealed that she had already devised an idea for the film.

Speaking on The View, Curtis said: "Let me be the grandma, let me be the old grandma who switches places, so then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma who’s still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon.

"I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I want to be a helicopter parent in today’s world.”

Disney, please. We need this on the big screen.
