Jamie Foxx has opened up about his recent medical complication, as the actor spent a lengthy amount of time in hospital earlier this year.

In April, Foxx, 55, suffered a medical complication while he was in Atlanta filming the movie Back in Action, with both he and his family providing updates to fans along the way.

The Oscar winner continues to recover from his ill-health to this day, and took to Instagram on Saturday (22 July) to thank fans for all their support.

The actor said: "I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back.

"I went through something I thought I would never ever go through."

Foxx acknowledged that fans wanted constant updates surrounding his health as many feared the worse, but Foxx had a particular reason why he didn't want to do that.

"To be honest with you, I just didn't want you to see me like that," he said.

"I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie [or] television show.

"I didn't want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through."

In the lengthy video, Foxx went on to thank his sister Deidra Dixon and his daughter Corinne for saving his life, while also the 'great medical people' who treated him.

The actor also put to bed any rumors doing the rounds online.

He said: "Now, you know, by being quiet sometimes things get out of hand. People saying what I got, some people said I was blind, but as you can see ... the eyes are working just fine. Said I'm paralyzed — I'm not paralyzed.

"But I did go through... I went to hell and back. And my road to recovery had some potholes as well. But I'm coming back. And I'm able to work."

Concluding the video, Foxx understandably got rather emotional, saying: "I know they talk about people crying on videos.

"You can do a take two; I'm not gonna do a take two. It is what it is. If you see me out from now on and every once in a while I just burst into tears, it's because it's been tough, man. I've been sick, man. But now, I've got my legs under me, so you're gonna see me out."

Foxx ended by simply saying: "I'm on my way back."
