Heartstopper season three has dropped a brand new trailer, with the release date being announced as well.

The hit Netflix show is returning for a third season later this year, though until now, the date had not been revealed.

Check out the trailer here:

The first proper look at the season shows the core couple seemingly on the verge of a new step - saying "I love you".

Nick and Charlie are unabashedly together now, as confirmed by season two of the show (if you haven't watched it yet, that's on you).

Heartstopper was a smash hit on Netflix, receiving both critical and fan acclaim.

The show has 98 percent with critics on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as a huge 96 percent audience score.

Season three was confirmed earlier this year, with the cast coming together to confirm that we would be getting more of Charlie and Nick's story.

The trailer features an exclusive snippet of Billie Eilish's new song called 'Birds of a Feather'.

The full song will be released May 17, as part of her newest studio album, Hit Me Hard and Soft.

But as for the actual show, we've still got a while to go - with season three scheduled to be released on October 3.

Season three will see much of the core cast return, however, Olivia Coleman will unfortunately not be returning.

Coleman had previously played Charlie's Mom, starring in some of the most emotional scenes of the show.

She said she wouldn't be returning due to scheduling conflicts, telling Forbes:

"I couldn’t do number three. I couldn’t fit it in. I feel awful about that”.

“I feel like I was part of one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever been part of."

Coleman didn't, however, refuse to rule out a return for a possible season four, or even a spinoff.

Joining the cast however will be Bridgerton's Jonathan Bailey, Captain America's Hayley Atwell, and The Gentlemen's Eddie Marsan.

Atwell, who has recently starred in Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning: Part One, will play Diane, Nick's Aunt, according to Variety.

Bailey will play a cameo role as Jack Maddox, an 'Instagram-famous classicist and celebrity crush of Charlie'.

Finally, Eddie Marsan will be playing Charlie's therapist, Geoff.

The season's official description from Netflix foreshadows a bumpy road for our beloved couple this season as Charlie wants to tell Nick that he 'loves him', while Nick also has 'something important to say to Charlie'.

However, as the summer holiday comes to an end and a new school year beckons, the friends 'begin to realize that the school year will come with both its joys and its challenges'.

Advert

"As they learn more about each other and their relationships, plan social events and parties and start thinking about university choices, everyone must learn to lean on those they love when life doesn’t go to plan." it says.

Heartstopper will be returning to our TV screens on October 3.
