Fans Have Theory As To Why Christian Bale's Gorr The God Butcher Doesn't Look Like He Does In Comics

Fans are reacting to the first-look images of Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher for Thor: Love and Thunder - and some have already shared their own theory on why he looks so different from how he did in the comics.

A trailer for the upcoming Marvel flick was released last night, giving fans the first chance to see Bale in character.

However, some were left feeling slightly confused due to how different Bale’s on-screen Gorr the God Butcher looks to the comic book version.

Take a look at the trailer below:

On Twitter, one fan shared an image of the comic book Gorr and wrote: “The trailer looks so good but one thing I would change is Christian Bale Gorr the God Butcher version and make it like this version of the comic. I feel like the comic version would be scarier than this.”

But others have already begun to theorise why that might be, with one fan suggesting Bale is such a good actor that using a bunch of CGI would be a ‘sin’.

One person replied: “Nah… let Christian Bale act his a** off instead of some CGI bulls**t or practical makeup covering up the acting. Sometimes change is alright.”

Another said: “If he slays the role as we’re expecting him to, his looks shouldn’t matter.”

Someone else wrote: “People won't shut up about CGI if they did and It's Christian Bale. CGI-ing Christian Bale's character body in design is a sin for movies I think.”

While a fourth commented: “It depends on what suits the actor Christian Bale is a very expressive person covering that up with makeup would be a major waste. If you have a phenomenal actor just let them act.”

Thor: Love and Thunder will be released in July.

The new film, which arrives this summer, is a sequel to Thor: Ragnarok, and will see Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor alongside Natalie Portman, who plays his ex-girlfriend Jane Foster.

The latest instalment of the story will see Thor stepping away from his superhero days before being called back into action alongside Valkyrie (played by Tessa Thompson), Korg and ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who transforms into the Mighty Thor.

The team must join together to stop Gorr the God Butcher from eliminating all gods in his act of vengeance.

Thor: Love and Thunder is released 8 July 2022.
