Christian Bale was so terrifying on the set of Thor: Love and Thunder he sent children running and screaming.

Yep, you read that correctly. Former superhero Christian got so into his role as Gorr the God Butcher that he scared the kids on set.

With The Mighty Thor herself (Natalie Portman) calling the actor 'terrifying' in the villainous role.

If you haven't see Thor: Love and Thunder yet, firstly, what are you doing? And, secondly, brace yourself for Christian's stint as Gorr the God Butcher.

The antagonist for Taika Waititi's latest film is as horrific as he sounds and has a fondness for killing gods, go figure.

Self-explanatory names aside, according to Natalie, the character was just as scary off screen, as she told Total Film: "It was terrifying whenever he was in character.

"He has a very, very, very scary look, in addition to, of course, his excellent acting.

"But, on this one, in between, he'd be like, 'Hey, what's up?' It was just a normal conversation, which was jarring, because he looked terrifying."

It wasn't just Natalie that was freaked out by Christian's performance, because the little ones on set had a similarly strong reaction.

Natalie added: "The children would run screaming."

To be honest, so would we because that's not exactly what you want to see as a young kid on set early in the morning.

Still, Christian wasn't aware he'd be quite so scary, with the actor himself weighing in on the discussion: "I thought it was going to be like, stick a few dots on my face and roll up.

"Maybe embarrassingly in a grey unitard, but alright, I could deal with that. I enjoy humiliation."

However, it wasn't special effects, because Christian was soon told: "You've got a 2am call. And then it was like, 'Oh, no, I'm sitting for four hours, doing prosthetics.' Somehow, I hadn't heard that."

All those prosthetics clearly paid off, as most fans loved Bale's performance and look in the film.

One fan said: "Thor: Love and Thunder was fun and I enjoyed it overall. The biggest highlight for me was Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. He was mesmerising. He’s got some really kick ass and creepy scenes. I thoroughly enjoyed every second he was on screen."

Another added: "Scary, threatening, terrific, dark, emotional. Wow What a great performance CHRISTIAN BALE, he has less screen time and not so good script but his acting made the character awesome."
