Chris Evans isn't ruling out returning as Captain America

The actor says it doesn't feel right to re-enter the MCU 'right now', but admits there are more Steve Rogers stories to tell.

Chris Evans has left the door ever so slightly ajar to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

While he hanged up Captain America's vibranium shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame, he believes there could be an opportunity in the future for him to come back.

However, it doesn't sound like he wants to do it right now.

Speaking at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) over the weekend, Evans opened up on if he would ever do it.

“It’s tough. I love that role deeply. It means so much to me,” Evans said, via The Wrap. “And I mean, do I think there’s more Steve Rogers stories to tell? Sure.

"But at the same time, I’m very, very precious with it.

"It’s like this little shiny thing that I have that I love so much, and I just don’t want to mess up in any way, and I was a part of something that was so special for the special period of time and in a way it really landed so well.”

The final moments of Endgame saw Rogers hand Cap's shield to Sam Wilson (who is played by Anthony Mackie).

We get to see Wilson rise to the occasion during the Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series and it looks like he's all ready to become the new Captain America.

To add another element to the MCU storyline, Rogers is an old man at the end of Endgame because he chooses to go back in time and live with the love of his life, Peggy Carter.

So, if he wanted to come back as Captain America, or even just as Steve Rogers, there would have to be a lot of multiverse trickery involved.

At C2E2, Evans said: "You know, I don’t know. As much as I’m connected to that role, and love telling those stories, and working with those people, it doesn’t quite feel right right now.”

So the jury is out on Evans coming back to the MCU after leaving it in a perfectly wrapped bow.

But he has certainly not given us a direct 'no' about returning to the role.

Who knows, we could even get a Captain America version of Spider-Man: No Way Home where we see multiple superheroes in one movie.

Just don't hold your breath, because it sounds like it's not going to be in the near future in the slightest.
