Jamie Foxx has revealed Cameron Diaz is starring in a new film, marking her return to acting after previously announcing her retirement.

Diaz confirmed she'd be leaving the acting industry in 2018. In 2021, she opened up to Kevin Hart that she'd decided the musical comedy Annie would be her last film in order to make her life more 'manageable'.

However, it appears the 49-year-old actress has made her life so much more 'manageable' that she has some spare time to get behind the camera again.

Fellow acting legend and co-star in Annie, Jamie Foxx, has since taken to Twitter to tease Diaz's return leaving fans ecstatic.

The post includes a recording of a phone call conversation between Foxx and Diaz. Listen here:

The caption reads: "Cameron I hope you aren’t mad I recorded this, but no turning back now. Had to call in the GOAT to bring back another GOAT.

"@CameronDiaz and I are BACK IN ACTION - our new movie with @NetflixFilm. Production starting later this year!!"

In the call, Diaz can be heard opening up about how 'nervous' she is, but also 'excited'.

"I don't know how to do this, you know?" she says.

Jamie Foxx and Diaz last worked together on 2014's Annie.

However, Foxx then reassures Diaz he has 'somebody on the other line' who can help her.

None other than American football quarterback Tom Brady then casually hops onto the call.

Earlier this year, the 44-year-old sportsman announced his retirement.

However, just a day later, Brady 'un-retired', noting he had realised his 'place is still on the field and not in the stands'.

On the phone call, Brady can be heard joking to Diaz that he is 'relatively successful at un-retiring,' which Diaz resolves is 'exactly what [she] needed'.

Foxx's post has amassed over 200,000 views and fans of The Holiday actress have since flooded to it in celebration of the announcement of Diaz's return.

One said: "The 2000s it girl is back."

"How in the world did you get her to come out of retirement???" another joked.

A third resolved: "So surprised she is coming back! When I saw her great interview with @KevinHart4real she looked so happy with her decision to retire. Looking forward to this one!"

As well as opening up to Kevin Hart about her decision to leave the industry behind, Diaz also spoke out about the decision while on Gwyneth Paltrow's podcast.

She said: "I got a peace in my soul, because I finally was taking care of myself. It's a strange thing to say, I know a lot of people won't understand it, I know you understand it, but it's so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there.

"There's a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you're really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there."

However, she didn't rule out returning to the world of showbiz.

Despite announcing her retirement in 2018, Diaz never ruled out returning to the screen.

And sure enough, Diaz is back with a bang, starring alongside Foxx in a Netflix action comedy titled Back in Action.

The film is being co-written and directed by Seth Gordon, who's latest work includes The Lost City, alongside Brendan O'Brien.

Although, for now, any more details surrounding the film are being kept strictly 'under wraps'.
