A woman on TikTok has shared a video encouraging others to realise how 'fake' social media photos can really be.

TikToker Holly Cockerill - aka @hollycockerillmua - took to the video sharing platform where she shared a video montage of several different photographs.

With each picture, she posted a before and after shot, showing how easily the photo could be edited to look totally different.

You can watch the video below:

Some of the transformations were totally shocking, while in others, Holly's hair looks a different colour or her face appears to be a different shape.

Many of the 'after' shots are airbrushed, with Holly appearing to have a full face of make-up, when really, the original photo is totally make-up free.

"Proof that social media is fake," Holly wrote in the video.

Holly regularly uploads similar types of videos onto her platform in a bid to show others how simple social media editing can be.

Holly posted a before and after shot of each image.

The make-up artist also told Bored Panda: “I enjoy making people laugh, so I started making funny videos on TikTok. But I had a passion for makeup, and that’s why I created my makeup page.

"That’s where my ‘Instagram versus real life’ videos are.

“I’m guilty of always scrolling through Instagram and seeing ‘perfect’ selfies with the perfect life, and it made me feel so bad about myself. I'd constantly compare myself to these fake images.

The images were heavily edited.

“I then started seeing accounts showing celebrities and popular influencers on social media versus real life, and I couldn’t believe the difference.”

She added: “Young people look up to influencers and want to be like them or look like them. And if those influencers are using an app that changes everything about themselves, then it’s making normal people question why they don’t look good enough.”

Other TikTokers were grateful to Holly for posting the video. One person commented: "You actually really help me to remind myself not to compare how I look to those online. Thank you, sometimes I really need it."

While another said: "These make me feel so much better about myself . I never get tired of these."

And a third added: "I love that you bring this to the forefront."

Meanwhile a fourth wrote: "Thanks for posting this. It’s so hard not to get caught up in wanting to look exactly like those filters. You are so beautiful!"

And a fifth added: "Pls never stop these videos I love them sm."
