Gross reason why men shouldn't pee standing up and how it's being taught in some countries

Men typically stand when peeing, but you are apparently doing it all wrong

While it's extremely common in a lot of countries including the US, it's apparently pretty gross for men to wee while standing up.

I think a lot of men can testify that it just feels natural standing while going for a number one, but it's actually very unhygienic.

The discussion as to whether men should stand or sit when going for a wee has come to the forefront thanks to a post by the viral Twitter account 'non aesthetic things'.

"Why men shouldn’t pee standing up," the video was captioned before it began with a man going for a wee with honestly an unprecedented volume of urine.

I mean, he was surely holding that one for a while.

The video explained how men going for a wee while standing usually 'aim for four spots'.

And while the back of the toilet may seem like your best bet, it's actually the 'most destructive option'.

The video explained: "The rebound splash can be up to 7,550 drops of urine."

If you are aiming for the middle of the toilet, then that drops to around 372 drops of urine.

The video went on to explain the wee can travel between 7.5-15cm, though as they collide and spurt out into more drops, urine can travel as far as 91cm.

Such a movement could see urine land on toothbrushes, toilet paper and even towels used after a shower. Eww.

Many have flocked to the comments section of the viral Twitter video to provide their reaction.

"Good thing I don't keep my hand towels at the same level as the toilet bowl," one person wrote.

A second added: "Am I the only boy who didn’t learn in grammar school about the hazards of peeing while standing?!?"

So, maybe it's time for men to actually sit down when going for a wee - something medical experts have backed in the past.

A survey conducted last year analysed the way different men position themselves when emptying the bladder.

The YouGov study concluded blokes in the US are not peeing in the most effective or most health-conscious way.

While Germany saw 60 percent of men sitting down to wee, seemingly after being taught it from a young age.

Gerald Collins, a consultant urological surgeon at the Alexandra Hospital, revealed there is a way which is typically considered the most healthy way for those with penises to urinate.

The doctor told The Telegraph that the sitting position is 'probably the most efficient way' to go for a wee.
