A tattoo artist has sparked controversy online after revealing he charged over $900 for this one particular tattoo.

Of course, tattoos do not come cheap - you can perhaps get a smaller one in the $50-$100 range, but if you are wanting a bigger one, be prepared to pay in the hundreds.

However, a lot of people seem to think this one tattoo artist has gone too far with the prices, particularly due to the type of tattoo he has inked.

The tattoo artist turned TikToker Mykhailo is based in Berlin, and often posts some of his favourite designs to the popular video platform.

And while many have praised him for his unique abstract, scribble-like design, which was posted earlier this month - others have been left baffled by it and its apparent price tag.

In the video posted by the 21-year-old, a freshly created tattoo sits on a man's back, with Mykhailo adding an on-screen caption saying he paid 900 euros or $961 for the unique piece of artwork.

While the tattoo might look rather cool, close to a $1,000 certainly seems pretty steep.

But if you are potentially interested in having it, then the video did cut to a work-in-progress design that was sketched out in blue ink.

It appears to have two long shapes resembling flowers stemming from a scribbled section, while that is surrounded by disconnected lines.

The camera then turns to the final product - a sore-looking finished piece that is certainly rather unique.

The TikTok has been viewed more than 2.4 million times, with close to 100,000 likes and over 1,000 comments.

While many viewers hyped up the tattoo by leaving fire emojis in the comments, others were not exactly impressed.

"Looks like my graph from finals when i forgot to bring a ruler," one person joked.

Meanwhile, another person criticised the tattoo artist: "this is laziness & taking advantage of people & stealing their hard earned money! you should be ashamed! talking them into this & calling it art!"

But another TikTok user had a different point of view: "Have you guys thought about that it’s a drawing from his kid or like a younger brother?"

And another person added: "Looks sick but idk if i would get myself one (maybe smaller)."

Speaking to Insider, Mykhailo said the tattoo was inspired by the concept of 'freedom' and 'beauty'.

He also added the tattoo actually cost between 700 and 800 euros, with him exaggerating the cost on TikTok.
