Man cancels family trip to Disney World after girlfriend had one odd demand

A lot of people sympathized with the man's situation

While parents are forever threatening to cancel Christmas, this man actually did.

There's very few reasons people would believe would warrant canceling holiday plans; however, a lot of people understood why this guy has done so.

The person in question has been in a relationship with his girlfriend for three years, and has a reasonably good relationship with her two kids from a previous partner.

With this in mind, the guy booked a trip for the four of them to go to Disney World for Christmas - something that could only be described as a dream come true for any child.

But his girlfriend went on to throw a spanner in the works and made an unusual request by asking that her ex (the father of her kids), his new wife and their child could come along as well.

Her reasoning for the request? Because her ex supposedly 'really wanted to be there for the kids' first trip to Disney'.

Her request was far from ideal, but the boyfriend who originally planned the trip agreed to invite them along.

But that wasn't the last of his woes. He later learnt that his girlfriend's ex was only willing to pay for his and his family's flights to the resort, and expected him to foot the rest.

He explained on Reddit's infamous 'Am I The As*hole' page: "He really can't afford to stay where we were going to stay, so he and [my girlfriend] Ashley decided that I should change our reservation and stay somewhere cheaper. Fine, I don't really care.

"I wanted to treat the kids to something awesome, but as long as we stay somewhere nice, I'm happy. We chose a good neighbour hotel at Disney Springs.

"It's nice, still allows for early entrance, and has character events and such."

Then he learnt of the apparent miscommunication between him, his girlfriend and her ex as they'd been under the impression that the money he was saving by going to a cheaper hotel meant he could afford to book two suites - one of him, the kids and girlfriend, and one for the ex, his wife and their child.

"Their idea of him pitching in was paying for flights for his wife and kid," he further explained.

This was the final straw for him, however, and he subsequently refused to pay for the ex and his family's accommodation.

In the end he canceled the flights and hotel all together, and gave the park tickets to his girlfriend incase she still wanted go and pay for everything herself.

Many people on Reddit felt like he did the right thing.

"He wants you to pay for his hotel by downgrading yours? LoL. Did he expect you to pay for his passes too. What a leech," someone said.

A second argued: " A gift you are gifting shouldn't be on someone else's terms."

"Can’t believe they all EXPECTED you to pay for most everything, even the ex and his new family," raged another Redditor.

"People need to stop trying to take advantage of someone’s generosity."
