Experts reveal the most ‘sexless day’ of the year

There seems to be one day in particular that we're least likely to have sex

Experts have revealed the date of the most ‘sexless day of the year’, with use of sexual health clinics around this time of year hitting an all time low.

Dr. Babak Ashrafi, an expert with Superdrug Online Doctor, found that the requests for the contraception pill and sexually transmitted infection testing dropped rapidly on a specific date - meaning you’re least likely to get lucky the day before.

Occurring during the chilly season, a possible factor could be the medical phenomenon that is ‘winter vagina’ as there are changes to your body that you may notice towards the end of the year, and sex may not be as enjoyable.

Dr Ashrafi explained why this may suddenly occur in the colder months, saying: “A drop in temperature can make skin and hair become dry and dehydrated, but not many people know that the temperature change can also have an effect on your vagina.

“A lack of moisture in the air is partly to blame, as well as heating indoors being used more often,” he added. “The vagina and surrounding area can become dry, itchy, and irritated, resulting in uncomfortable sex.”

Dr. Ashrafi found that the date with the least requests for contraception and STI testing was December 16, making the most sexless day of the year December 15.

It might not just be down to changes to the skin, either. The decrease in hours of daylight during the winter can also impact circadian rhythms, the internal clock that controls sleep patterns, the release of hormones, appetite, digestion and body temperature.

“Less sunlight exposure and spending more time indoors also results in vitamin deficiencies, which can make you feel more tired in winter months,” Ashrafi continued. “As energy levels are much lower due to tiredness, this can affect your libido and sex drive.” He said.

It might not come as a surprise to many that there seems to be a lack of frisk during this time of year, with us gearing up for Christmas, the majority of us are stressing over gift buying, food suggestions and overall festive preparations, but this stress can also be attributing to the drop in libido.

“Stress and worries can impact your sex drive, as well as other areas of your life, which is why it’s important to improve the ways you manage stress,” Ashrafi explained further.

The holiday season proves to be a slight bummer on the relationship front, along with the most sexless day falling within the month, the ‘most popular break up day’ also hits us around this time, on 11th Dec. So, there we have it, most of us are reportedly heartbroken or sexually frustrated.

Merry Christmas, one and all.
