Elon Musk's ex-wife Talulah Riley has opened up about why she decided to marry the Twitter boss not just once, but twice.

The 37-year-old British actress reignited her relationship with the Tesla and SpaceX CEO for another go after their initial divorce in 2012. Why, you might ask?

It's probably fair to say there's never a dull moment with Musk, whether he's making headlines with his multi-billion dollar fortune, his portfolio of business ventures or his controversial tweets.

With that being said, Riley does admit that marrying the Tesla CEO twice – once from 2010 to 2012 and then from 2013 to 2016 – might 'look strange' to outsiders despite it making 'sense at the time'.

She tells The Independent: "I suppose the reason to get remarried was just because it felt silly to be together unmarried after having been married. You know, it’s like a habit. We were saying ‘this is my husband.’ ‘This is my wife.’ ‘Oh, wait, no, we’re not that anymore. We better be that again.’

"You know, it felt silly to go back to ‘this is my boyfriend’ when we’ve been married. So, we just got married again."

Fair enough. But what was being married to Musk like?

During her time coupled up with the business mogul, Riley explained she took care of his five children from his previous marriage with Justine Musk.

However, she insists it 'wasn't really a traditional housewife role'.

"I mean, there were the rockets and the cars, and there were things blowing up… there was a lot going on – a lot that was very stimulating," Riley explains. "We [her, and Musk’s kids] were very involved in what was going on. It was a group effort. A family-wide effort."

Riley adds: "Elon was great. He had me alongside for all of that. So it wasn’t like I was stuck in a mansion in Bel Air like a trophy wife, which would not have been fun. I did, of course, witness that for others. But luckily, that was not my fate."

Despite having since divorced again – Musk having gone on to be linked to Aquaman actor Amber Heard and have two children with Canadian musician Grimes – the SpaceX CEO and Riley still have a 'very deep love and connection' for one another.

So much so, Riley has even acknowledged her ex-husband in her recent release, The Quickening.

Branding him the 'perfect ex-husband,' Riley calls Musk a 'great friend' noting he 'looks out for [her]'.

She resolves: "We are in a happy place now, where we’re good to each other, which is really nice. I have here utmost love for him."
