Friends' Matthew Perry previously opened up about wanting to find a partner and have children.

Perry tragically passed away at the age of 54, found at his Los Angeles home by authorities on Saturday (28 October).

Best known and loved for his iconic role as Chandler Bing on hit US sitcom Friends, Perry's on-screen character ends up getting married to Monica Geller (Courteney Cox).

The pair first get together for a drunken rendezvous in the episode titled The One With Ross' Wedding, Part 2. Chandler's feelings for Monica become apparent in the episodes that follow, and they then embark on a relationship kept secret from the rest of the friends.

In season six, in The One With The Proposal, Part 2, the pair end up both getting down on one knee, before the wedding takes place in season seven, before going on to have adopted twins - Jack and Erica - in the final season.

In his personal life, Perry didn't end up getting married or having kids, but that doesn't mean he didn't want to.

Ahead of the release of his memoir Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, Perry sat down with PEOPLE in October, 2022 to discuss his past relationships and plans for the future.

Perry reflected on his past relationships as typically ending because he was 'afraid'.

"That is what I manifest, something that's wrong with them. And then I break up with them," he explained. "But there can't be something wrong with everyone. I'm the common denominator. I left first because I thought they were going to annihilate me."

However, the actor noted he'd since overcome the 'tremendous amount of fear' he had when it came to love and had new hopes for romance in the future.

He said: "The thing that's changed about me is I have no interest in hanging out with somebody that I don't know or somebody that I'm not that into. The next person I really take seriously is somebody that I'm going to be in love with and not be scared by the things that used to scare me."

Perry also opened up about the prospect of becoming a parent, resolving: "I think I'd be great. I really do. I grew up with a lot of little kids around me, and that's probably why, but I can't wait."

Perry's resurfaced comments about his hopes of becoming a father make his passing even more tragic.

A real life Batman - or should we say Mattman - fighting to raise awareness of mental health struggles such as addiction and supporting those also struggling, while also making millions laugh. If this is anything to go by he would've been an amazing father, and there's no doubt he will be greatly missed by many.
