A former Saturday Night Live writer has mocked Matthew Perry's death.

The actor, who was best known for starring as Chandler Bing in Friends, passed away on Saturday, October 28, after an apparent drowning.

His official cause of death is yet to be revealed, however, and is isn't expected to be shared for several weeks as the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has requested further investigations after an initial post-mortem came back 'inconclusive'.

In light of the breaking reports of his death saying that Perry was thought to have drowned in a hot tub, ex SNL writer Kevin Brennan seemed to find the situation amusing.

Reposting a TMZ article of the devastating news, Brennan wrote: "DROWNED IN A HOT TUB. HAHAHAHA."

People have since hit out at Brennan for his undeniably tone-deaf tweet.

"Tacky, dude. So tacky," someone said.

"What the hell is your problem?" questioned another.

"This is gross, dude," a third person added, as another person labelled him as a 'sad, sad human being'.

"Serious? I pity you for this kind of comment," fumed another.

Meanwhile, others called for Brennan to take the tweet down - but 24 hours on, it's still up.

In fact, a few hours ago he appeared to be completely unfazed by the backlash and tweeted: "Am I trending yet?"

UNILAD has contacted Brennan for comment.

Brennan was alone in making light of Perry's passing as millions of others have been left devastated by his death - his family included.

In a statement issued yesterday, they said: "We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother.

"Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend.

"You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love."

Perry was born in August 1969 to his mother, journalist Suzanne Marie Morrison, and father, actor John Bennett Perry.

After his parents split, Perry was brought up by his mother in Ontario.

She later got remarried to Keith Morrison, who is known for hosting NBC News’ Dateline.

They welcomed four children together, while his father had another child with his second wife as well - making Perry the eldest of the six.

While he was from a big family, the 17 Again actor never wed or had any children of his own.

He was once engaged to ex-girlfriend Molly Hurwitz, but the pair ended their romance in 2021.
