Footage shows moment Katy Perry found out Russell Brand dumped her via text just before she went on stage

Footage has resurfaced showing the devastating moments after Katy Perry discovered she had been ‘dumped’ via text by her ex-husband Russell Brand.

Prior to the recent investigation into British comedian Russell Brand by The Times, Sunday Times, and Channel 4’s Dispatches, Brand took to his YouTube channel to strongly deny the allegations of rape and sexual assault brought against him by four separate women.

Following what the former presenter has called ‘co-ordinated attack’, footage has since re-emerged showing his ex-wife Katy Perry reacting to the news that he was filing for divorce from her in 2011.

The clip, taken from Perry’s 2012 autobiographical documentary concert film, Katy Perry: Part of Me, is currently doing the rounds on social media.

It shows the American singer-songwriter in the moments after allegedly receiving a text from Brand stating that their 14-month marriage was over.

While the contents of the text has never been revealed, she previously opened up to Vogue in 2013 and said that after receiving Brand’s single message regarding divorce, she ‘hadn’t heard a word from him’.

"He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011,” she claimed.

In the clip, a male close to Perry can be heard saying: “You have two options - you can cancel the show or you can do your best,” while she appears to be crying.

However, moments later the singer-songwriter was up, ready and dressed to perform in front of thousands of fans.

Perry was then led up to the steps of the stage while still in tears to a crowd leading a chorus in her name.

After receiving a hug behind the scenes, the star readied herself before appearing on stage with a smile plastered on her face.

Perry originally met Brand in 2009, meeting on the set of 2010’s Get Him to the Greek when the ‘I Kissed a Girl’ singer was making a cameo appearance.

At the time, she was 25 years old while he was 35.

It’s reported that he and the ‘Firework’ singer soon began dating after meeting up again at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, and he subsequently proposed to her three months later.

The couple tied the knot at the Ranthambore Tiger Sanctuary in Rajasthan, India in October 2010. Only close friends and family of the pair were permitted to attend the ceremony.

However, 14 months after the wedding, Brand allegedly sent the 38-year-old a text stating that he had filed for divorce. Their divorce was finalized in 2012.

Speaking about his relationship with Perry, the British actor previously said in his documentary BRAND: A Second Coming: “I’m associated with the very thing I detest: vapid, vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity.”
