Jennifer Lawrence admitted her frustration at being paid $5m less than Leonardo DiCaprio for Don’t Look Up

Jennifer Lawrence has called out the gender pay gap in Hollywood after revealing her payment for Don't Look Up compared to Leonardo DiCaprio

Fair payment isn’t just something that us commoners are concerned about; celebrities are also feeling the wrath of unequal salaries too.

Even though it’s been two years since Don't Look Up dropped on Netflix and caused chaos between the haters and fans of the movie, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes than once thought.

At a time where the gender pay gap issue was gaining traction and becoming a talking point in Hollywood, Jennifer Lawrence blew it wide open after disclosing how much money she was paid compared to Leonardo DiCaprio.

Now this wasn’t a little bit of cash, it was a $5 million discrepancy.

You might be thinking that it's a bit ridiculous for highly paid actors to be talking about salary issues when we’re all suffering through a cost-of-living crisis, but that’s a lot of money to be missing out on.

The Hunger Games star recognised that, while actors are massively overpaid, the discrepancy is part of a wider issue with gender.

As the two actors were the stars of Adam McKay's comedy film, acting as scientists trying to warn the world of an approaching comet that's going to wipe out all of humanity, you’d think they would be paid similarly.

But according to a Variety report on the biggest movie stars' salaries, Lawrence only received $25 million for the role, while DiCaprio made $30 million.

Speaking to Vogue for the October 2022 issue, Lawrence stated that the pay gap was 'bothersome' to her.

She said: "It doesn’t matter how much I do. I’m still not going to get paid as much as that guy, because of my vagina?"

And this isn't the first time that Lawrence has been subject to notable pay gaps compared to her male co-stars as in 2014, Sony Pictures computers were hacked, and it was revealed that Christian Bale and Bradley Cooper were paid more than and Amy Adams her for American Hustle.

Jennifer penned an essay during the controversy of the Hollywood gender gap scandal that: "When the Sony hack happened and I found out how much less I was being paid than the lucky people with d**ks, I didn’t get mad at Sony. I got mad at myself."

Lawrence also commented on rumours that she had slept with Harvey Weinstein when speaking to Vogue, after the producer claimed that he had slept with her.

Weinstein produced The Silver Linings Playbook, which Lawrence acted in and is currently serving prison time after being found guilty of rape and sexual assault.

A 2018 lawsuit against the producer saw him boast about sleeping with Lawrence, allegedly stating: "I slept with Jennifer Lawrence and look where she is; she has just won an Oscar."

But Lawrence outright denied the claims at the time, dismissing the rumour again during a round of 73 Questions with Vogue.

When asked what the most 'bizarre' thing she had ever read about herself was, she replied: "That I f***ed Harvey Weinstein."

That’s our girl.
