Internet users have been left with 'second-hand embarrassment' after watching footage of Elon Musk get heckled by members of a crowd in Wisconsin.

The billionaire SpaceX founder appeared on stage in Green Bay, Wisconsin yesterday (March 30), as he continued to endorse Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel in the Wisconsin Supreme Court election on April 1.

Musk came out onto the stage wearing a huge block of foam cheese on his head - a nod to the state and the Green Bay Packers football team - and sparked controversy as he handed out two checks for $1,000,000 to voters.

Amid this bizarre behavior, Musk also had to deal with hecklers who interrupted his speech as he spoke about the amount of 'waste' in the federal government, describing it as 'insane'.

The comment prompted calls from the crowd, causing Musk to hesitate in his speech before making reference to billionaire George Soros - a longtime supporter of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin and a donor who Schimel has previously claimed found an 'ideal investment' in his election opponent, Dane County Judge Susan Crawford.

In response to the hecklers, Musk said: "It was inevitable that at least a few Soros operatives would be in the audience."

He then waved to the crowd and put on a posh voice as he said: "Give my regards to George! Say hi to George for me!"

The comment caused the crowd to become riled up, and Musk then took another turn with his speech as he joined in chanting: "USA! USA!"

The whole ordeal has left some viewers struggling to believe their eyes, with one Reddit user responding to the clip to say the 'second-hand embarrassment' they'd experienced was 'unforgivable'.

Responding to the comment, another added: "Right? The guy is the richest man in the world and still painfully cringe. This timeline is so crazy."

A third wrote: "I cringed so hard, watching him makes me so uncomfortable."

Musk's support for Schimel comes as Republicans hope to flip the state's Supreme Court in their favor.

Describing the election as one that could impact 'the future of civilization', Musk told the crowd: "Thank you for coming out in support. It's important for the country and the world. The Supreme Court can redraw the districts, which could result in the House shifting to a Democratic majority. If that happens, they will try to block all the reforms we are working on for you, the American people."
