A body language expert has broken down Blake Lively's reaction to a joke Ryan Reynolds made.

Last night (February 16), celebrities from far and wide flocked to New York to celebrate Saturday Night Live's 50th anniversary.

From Meryl Streep and Martin Short, to Jack Nicholson and Aubrey Plaza, dozens of famous faces were in attendance to mark the occasion.

Two people who many might not have expected to be there is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds amid the ongoing legal battles they're facing with Lively's It Ends With Us co-star, Justin Baldoni.

The famous couple have been keeping a low profile since Gossip Girl star Lively accused Baldoni, who also directed It Ends With Us, of sexual harassment and creating a campaign to 'destroy her reputation'.

This led Baldoni to file his own lawsuit against Lively and Reynolds - both Baldoni and Lively's legal teams have denied the accusations presented in both lawsuits.

Since the filing, which took place a few days before Christmas, both Reynolds and Lively have seldom been seen at public events, with last night's SNL celebrations being one of their first in some weeks.

And much to people's surprise, Reynolds had a small part in the star-studded fun.

Speaking to SNL favorites Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, Reynolds was asked by the pair: "How's it going?"

The Deadpool actor replied: "Great. Why? What have you heard?"

People have since suggested that the response was a tongue-in-cheek way of addressing his and Lively's legal woes with Baldoni.

While Reynolds was stood up at the time, Lively remained seated next to him and her reaction to his response was caught on camera.

Breaking down the actor's body language, body language expert Judi James told UNILAD: "Blake's smile as she sits beside him suggests she gets the joke that is coming, although her expression is complex.

"Her eyes narrow in an eye smile but her mouth smile involves some puckering around the lips to suggest suppression, but she soon smiles broadly, showing her teeth.

"Ryan's punchline prompts a quick change of mood for her though. Her smile drops and her head snaps round and up to look at his face in what is likely to be mock concern here."

Going on to discuss Reynolds' demeanour, James shared: "Self-effacing humor can be the perfect tension-breaker, and Ryan uses it here in the face of all the recent events."

The body language expert went on to claim: "He begins by adopting a keen, boyish facial expression with his brows raised and eyes rounded, plus a polite smile on his face.

"His hands are clasped in front of his torso with a comedy shy, nervous wringing action but, asked how he is, his reaction sounds and looks mock-paranoid, with his clasp dropping lower, into the self-protective fig leaf pose, wringing more emphatically, as he asks 'Why? What have you heard?'"
