Billie Eilish has revealed her family dog, Pepper, has sadly died.

The singer took to Instagram this week to announce the sad update and she's been overwhelmed with support from her fans.

The 21-year-old said: "Pepper. my life long best friend. i will see you again someday sweet girl.

"You made it 15 years you f**king beast.

"i love you. rest easy mama, i’ll miss you forever.this is a really hard day."

She included a bunch of photos of her and Pepper through the years.

One snap showed Billie looking into the camera with a tear running down her cheek, while another shows the whole Eilish family with a spot on their eye to mimic Pepper's.

The last two photos appeared to show the family dog in her later years but still filled with an adorable energy.

Billie was flooded with messages of condolence and some even praised her for making them feel a bit better about their own animal losses over the years.

One fan wrote: "I posted something similar when my dog passed and I was self conscious about it. Thank you for normalizing this."

Another added: "Oh man. Losing a family member that is just pure love is the hardest thing. I’m so sorry."

A third said: "Sending our deepest condolences to the whole family. Rest in peace, Pepper."

Even the animal rights and welfare organization PETA sent a message to the young Grammy Award-winning artist.

"Oh Billie, we are so sorry for your loss. Thank you for giving Pepper so many wonderful years. We are sending you and your entire family love and strength during this difficult time," PETA said in a comment on Instagram.

Loads of fans wished animals could live as long as humans so we wouldn't have to deal with instances like this every decade or so.

Billie recently opened up about her latest song 'What Was I Made For?' and how it came to be.

It's featured on the soundtrack to the Barbie movie and she and her producer brother Finneas were invited to see a rough-cut of the film.

She explained to Zane Lowe that she went into the experience with low expectations about coming up with a song.

"I was like, 'I just want to see this movie'," she said.

"This is so cool. I’m honored to even be thought of, whatever."

The day after watching the film, the two started coming up with early lyrics and piano chords and they managed to find the heart of the song.

We don't want to spoil anything for you but 'What Was I Made For?' kicks in at the end of the film exactly where it's needed.
