Keanu Reeves Is Up For Playing An 'Older Batman'

Keanu Reeves has said he’d be up for playing an ‘older’ version of Batman.

The actor made the comments while doing the press rounds for his new animated film DC League of Super-Pets, in which he voices the Caped Crusader.

Reeves acknowledged that although ‘Pattinson's got Batman right now’, he’d loved to play the DC superhero down the line.

The Matrix star told Extra: "It's always been a… it's been a dream. Pattinson's got Batman right now, and he's doing awesome.”

He added: “Maybe down the road. Maybe when they need an older Batman."

Reeves also opened up about how excited he was to have been able to voice Batman in DC League of Super-Pets, saying: “Just to be part of a project that Johnson and Kevin Hart are part of is awesome, and I got to play Batman."

While fans will be stoked to hear we might one day get to see Reeves in the iconic suit, they were left less than impressed by the actor last month when it was revealed he's started working with NFTs.

It emerged in June that Reeves had become an adviser for The Futureverse Foundation, a charitable initiative designed to encourage artists to participate in NFTs.

In short, The Futureverse Foundation pushes creators to produce work that can be sold in the metaverse and is ‘committed’ to funding people creating artwork that can be turned into NFTs.

In a statement commenting on his new role, per The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves said: "I am honoured to be joining Non-Fungible Labs’ efforts in cooperation with Alexandra Grant for the extraordinary program and opportunity of the Futureverse Foundation, in support of artists and creators globally."

Fans were dismayed to hear about Reeves' involvement, considering he’s previously positioned himself as someone with little interest in NFTs.

When Reeves learned that over 300,000 people joined a virtual queue to try and get their hands on Matrix Resurrections NFTs, he described them as ‘things that are easily reproduced’, suggesting he felt the digital assets were merely an example of mass consumption culture. 

Upon learning about Reeves’ new role, one critic commented: "You think life has meaning you try to find beauty in everything and one day you wake up to find out Keanu Reeves is releasing NFTs".

Another wrote: "Not Keanu Reeves doing NFTs. He was supposed to be the chosen one."

Many fans have called back to Reeves' earlier criticism of NFTs, with some suggesting he may have changed his mind with influence from his girlfriend, Alexandra Grant. 

Grant, who is also an adviser for the Futureverse Foundation, described the organisation as an opportunity to build 'a new economy of [cultural] exchange'.
