Jennifer Aniston has spoken out about her fertility battles and the speculation around whether or not she wanted a baby with ex-husband Brad Pitt.

The question of whether or not Jennifer Aniston wants children has, unfortunately, been the subject of much public discussion.

During the Friends star's marriage to fellow actor Brad Pitt, she was even accused of prioritising her career over becoming a parent.

The 53-year-old has since opened up about the 'years of speculation' surrounding whether or not she wanted a baby with her ex and the effect it had on her mental wellbeing.

Aniston and Pitt were together for a total of seven years, nearly five of which they were married.

In 2005, they announced their divorce - the announcement plagued by rumours Aniston had chosen 'her career over kids'.

In a statement to People, the pair even addressed the tabloid speculation which had enshrouded their relationship.

"For those who follow these sorts of things, we would like to explain that our separation is not the result of any of the speculation reported by the tabloid media. This decision is the result of much thoughtful consideration.

"We happily remain committed and caring friends with great love and admiration for one another. We ask in advance for your kindness and sensitivity in the coming months," the statement read.

In an interview with Allure, Aniston has since further hit back at the speculation, calling the allegations she put her career before having children completely false.

She said: "It was absolute lies [the] narrative that I was just selfish. I just cared about my career.

"And God forbid a woman is successful and doesn't have a child. And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn't give him a kid.

What's more, the actor explained just how hurtful it was to hear those rumours when she so desperately wanted a child.

"I was trying to get pregnant. It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road. All the years and years and years of speculation. It was really hard.

"I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would have given anything if someone had said to me, 'Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favour.' You just don't think it," she said.

Aniston found it 'really hard' considering she was 'going through IVF' and doing everything she could to get pregnant.

Now 53, Aniston doesn't look back on not having children with sadness or hurt, but 'a little relief'.

The actor resolved: "Because there is no more, 'Can I?' I don't have to think about that anymore. [...] The ship has sailed."
