US billionaire Jeff Bezos has revealed there's an ideal amount of sleep he needs every night in order to be successful in business.

Bezos, who is the founder and executive chairman of Amazon, revealed getting the perfect night of rest means he can function better and make "high quality decisions".

Speaking in an interview, which was then shared by the YouTube account Success Mindset, the retail tycoon revealed: "I get eight hours of sleep a night. I prioritise it. For me I need eight hours of sleep. I think better. I have more energy. My mood is better. All these things."

He added: "And think about it; as a Senior Executive, what do you really get paid to do? As a Senior Executive, you get paid to make a small number of high quality decisions. If I make like three good decisions a day, that's enough. And they should be just as high quality as I can make them."

Taking the moment to take a teasing swipe at fellow billionaire Warren Buffet, Bezos quipped: "Warren Buffet says he's good if he makes three good decisions a year!"

Bezos started Amazon in 1994 after quitting his job in the technology sector, managing to persuade his family and friends to invest. It began with Bezos selling books from his garage all the way to sales hitting $386 billion in 2020.

Since stepping down from running the company in 2021, Bezos now owns 11 percent of Amazon shares, but has sold an estimated $27 billion worth of shares since 1997, according to Forbes.

However, whether he's getting eight hours of shut eye a night or not, he's now slipping down the global rich list. A report by Bloomberg states he has lost his title as the second-richest person on the planet recently to Indian entrepreneur Gautam Adani - who is the richest individual from Asia.

The Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group achieved the latter award in February when he overtook fellow Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani. Adani increased his wealth this year by nearly $61 billion thanks to a series of deals that have seen the industrialist's portfolio expand into cement, airports, coal and more.

The wealthy businessman has rocketed up the rich list charts this year, having starting 2022 as the 14th richest on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

On overtaking Bezos as the second-richest individual, Adani's fortune is now worth $146.9 billion - to compare, the Amazon boss' worth is $145.8 billion.

Ahead of Adani and Bezos is Elon Musk, who's wealth far exceeds anyone else on the list with $264 billion.
