Elon Musk is being taunted over his alleged hair plugs after he questioned gender affirming surgeries on Twitter.

The Tesla CEO’s comments followed the backlash over a recent documentary by right wing political commentator Matt Walsh, titled What is a Woman?

Many have slammed the film for being transphobic, with Rolling Stone saying it continues to push Walsh’s promise to ‘wage an all-out assault on gender ideology’ by ‘masquerading behind trying to “uncover the truth” of what makes someone a woman’.

And in response to a tweet about the documentary, Musk shared his two cents on the matter, writing: “We are simultaneously being told that gender differences do not exist and that genders are so profoundly different that irreversible surgery is the only option.

“Perhaps someone wiser than me can explain this dichotomy.”

In a follow-up tweet, he said: “It is a better world if we are all less judgy.”

It didn’t take long for the online community to respond, with many pointing to the rumours that he’s had a ‘gender-affirming surgery’ by getting a hair transplant, something Musk has never confirmed or denied.

Sharing a throwback pic of the balding SpaceX boss with a more recent snap of him with a thick head of hair, one Twitter user wrote: “Cis people get more gender-affirming surgery than trans people do.”

Also posting the before and after snaps, another said: “If I had to guess. Its similar to this. Still the same guy as before, but needed a change to feel right about yourself.”

A third commenter pointed out other common cis gender-affirming surgeries such as breast implants, writing: “Good question! Should we ban gender-affirming surgeries such as hair plugs? Breast implants?”

A fourth wrote: “Why do you care what other people do with their bodies? And why doesn't it extend to other permanent body modifications such as piercings, tattoos, plugs, etc?”

This isn’t the first time the 50-year-old billionaire has faced criticism for such comments, having said in 2020 that while he ‘supports trans, all these pronouns are an esthetic nightmare’.

His statement was a response to an article that criticised him over a meme he’d shared showing an animated soldier wearing a hat that says ‘I love to oppress’ and rubbing blood on his face with the caption: “When you put he/him in ur bio."

Musk tried to downplay his beliefs by pointing out that Tesla 'scored 100/100 for the fourth year in a row in LGBTQ equality', but that didn't stop the online community from clapping back.

One person wrote: "Fellas, what's more an aesthetic nightmare? Using words that already exist in the English language, or giving your kid a name that sounds like a rejected Doctor Who character?"

Another said: “Complaining about pronouns (that you likely never actually struggle with) is not supportive.”
