NBA star Anthony Edwards addresses $100,000 abortion scandal after Instagram model exposes texts

Anthony Edwards has issued a statement following a backlash on social media for his attitude during the situation.

NBA star Anthony Edwards has issued a statement following a conversation he had with a model about an abortion.

Minnesota Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards has been caught up in a whirlwind on social media following a leaked conversation he had with an Instagram model.

The model, named Paige Jordae, shared the text message conversation she had with Edwards on Instagram this week after telling him she believed he got her pregnant.

Offering no words of comfort or understanding, Edwards laughed as he implored her to get an abortion.

The model appeared to reluctantly agree, despite also explaining that she had previously had an abortion and regretted it.

Edwards, 22, appeared to be impatient with the whole situation and sent a slew of texts - including an offer of $100,000 to fund the procedure - that rubbed social media users the wrong way.

The messages included him saying things like ‘get a abortion lol’, ‘Hell nawl can’t do this’, and ‘you got da money wats the hol up’

Jordae also pressed the NBA player to be clear with what he wanted.

“U just don’t want a baby? Is that why ur saying all this? Cus I been cool with you,” to which he replied 'I don’t want kids' and insisted the pair handle this situation like 'grown ups'.

However, he later questioned why it was taking so long to confirm she had the abortion after being sent $100,000 from him.

The NBA guard has since released a statement on his social media pages.

The model claims Edwards sent her $100,000.

“I made comments in the heat of a moment that are not me, and that are not aligned with what I believe and who I want to be as a man,” Edwards wrote in his statement.

“All women should be supported and empowered to make their own decisions about their bodies and what is best for them.

“I am handling my personal matters privately and will not be commenting on them any further at this time.”

In a separate Instagram post, Jordae has explained why she chose to share all this information on the internet.

“I’ve never once ran to the internet about NO ONE,” she wrote. “I tried over and over to handle this privately and my efforts were ignored.

“I’ve been lied to and manipulated by someone who knows exactly what they’re doing and takes no accountability for anything.

“Y’all always want someone to blame and I guess it’s going to be me.”

The Minnesota Timberwolves is yet to comment on the situation publicly.

UNILAD has contacted Edwards' representatives for comment.
