Actor Billy Gardell shares update on his astonishing 150 pound weight loss

He said his weight loss had lead to his type 2 diabetes being completely 'gone'

Billy Gardell has given an update on health following his dramatic weight loss, which has seen the actor lose 150 lbs.

The Mike & Molly star said he’s ‘walking around pretty healthy’ since he decided to overhaul his lifestyle and even his type 2 diabetes has ‘gone’.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he explained: "I think you got to find peace with yourself and at some point, look in the mirror and go, 'You know, it's probably time to take care of you.' And I didn't get that note early on.

"But I'm a big believer that when you get it, you get it. It doesn't matter what it is, as long as you get it."

Gardell, 53, said his weight now sits between 205 lbs and 210 lbs after undergoing bariatric surgery in 2022. Since his operation, Gardell said he’s been working on developing a better relationship with food.

“The only thing I would say is understand that the operation is not the end, it’s the beginning,” he said.

“Because what you have to commit to on the other side of it is what you need to look at … if you’re not willing to commit to that routine. Don’t do it. But if you’re ready to commit to that on a daily basis, proof’s in the pudding.”

Gardell said that he felt spurred on to get fitter after believing he ‘wasn't a good example of health’ for his son.

“I want him to see that,” he said. “It doesn't matter what age you are, if you are willing to do something a day at a time, you can change anything."

Revealing a little more about his new diet, Gardell said that he now eats ‘small but very healthy meals’ and that he still has the odd treat on occasion.

“I eat like all the people I used to make fun of, to be honest,” he joked to the publication.

“I’ve got my fill and now I’m at the place where I can have a couple bites of something decadent if I want.”

As well as reversing his type 2 diabetes, Gardell said his resting heart rate had dropped from 113 to 68, and alongside the health benefits, he’s able to shop at more clothes stores than ever before thanks to his newly trim physique.

He added: “It’s been a real gift, on top of all the health stuff. That was the big thing.”
